A History of the Hispanic Society of America Museum and Library 1904-1954. With a Survey of the Collections

New York Hispanic Society of America, 1954. F First Edition. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall, Hardcover, Hard Cover, Very Good to Near Fine. Well illustrated book celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the Hispanic Society of America. Most of the book is devoted to the Society's museum and library holdings, and includes many black and white photographs. The museum collections are arranged chronologically, from the Prehistoric and Visigothic Period through the Twentieth Century; the library collections by subject, including early manuscripts, maps and globes, incunabula, books of chivalry, prints and more modern books on various subjects. Light red cloth lettered in gilt, 570 pages. Some wear to the corners and spine ends (see image provided), good hinges, firm binding, clean pages with a name on the front free endpaper but no other markings. A very clean and sound copy.

A Night With Paul Boyton and Other Stories

New York The Werner Company, 1899. F First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall, Hardcover, Hard Cover, Good to Very Good. A collection of short stories, including the title story, which involves a cruise with Paul Boyton, a man "with the rubber life-saving rig; has rescued lots of people from drowining; floated down most of the rivers of Europe and a good many in this country". This cruise took place in Florida. Other stories include: Boy-Divers in the Red Sea; St. Butolph's Town; Some Queer Americans; The Boy King of Egypt; and The Jewelled Tomb. Illustrated in black and white. Olive cloth with a strange front cover illustration of a man in a rubber suit with a sail attached to him (presumably, this is Paul Boyton), unpaginaged (about 120 pages). Covers have gotten damp at one point, with the lower outside corners and bottom edge discolored, endpapers stained. Text is very clean and bright with no evidence of dampstaining, just some pencil markings on the endpapers. Hinges good, binding sound, no chips or tears to the pages.

In French. Full speckled calf with spine labels, raised spine bands, gilt decorated compartments, 439 pages. Externally rubbed, with joints cracked but covers firmly attached, seminary stamp on title page, library numbers handwritten on front pastedown. Internally very good to near fine, with very clean pages. A sound and attractive copy.

Turn of the last century guide to social functions and fund-raising opportunities, pertinent to churches but equally applicable to other organizations. Illustrated. Includes such functions as fairs and bazaars, holiday festivals, salad suppers, concerts, teas, markets, puzzle patch-work for youngsters, themed suuppers, popcorn parties, themed parties such as Klondike, gypsies, the White House, Colonial times, The Three Fates, etc., pageants, boot and show sales, corn festivals, birthday parties, and how to make items for bazaars, etc. Green patterned cloth, 168 pages.
