I do not hope to seduce devotees of licentious engravings with the illustrations in this collection.They will not find their usual entertainment here. In these etchings there are no smutty stories which might titillate. One will not see the mawkish pastimes so dear to those who idealise pornography, nor any white and pink delicacies which respectable onanists collect, nor those private organs, so carefully washed in the bidet, that one might think to be made of porcelain. The love i have portrayed is not nearly as distinguished. I have left room for its pain, for its acts of violence and its spasms, it is surely there that lies its true poetry. I could not bring myself to try and please those people who picture love as an act of sexual kindness, and its portrayal as the signboard of a trysting-place. 150 copies of this collection of 12 etchings have been printed, as follows: One copy, numbered 1, on various kinds of paper containing all the original drawings ad lists of the etchings; and 149 copies, numbered 2 to 150, on vellum THIS COPY IS NUMBER 148 An unusual collection of erotic drawings ideal for framing.
