‎First Edition. Hard Cover , An issue in a bound volume containing an eclectic collection of periodicals from the 1790's. The volume itself is bound in full leather with a red leather label on the spine that simply states, "Magazines". Some shelfwear, rubbing, darkening of the spine, a scuff on the rear board, and wear a one tip. Paine's letter was written to the Parisian newspaper, The Republican, and explains his fidelity to the concept of republican government and his view of the events in France. Also, in this particular issue, is a letter by Thomas Paine dealing with the republican concept of government. This volume also include another issue, The Political Magazine (October, 1789), with considerable contemporary information on the French Revolution‎

‎New York, First Edition. Near Fine, Original, complete disbound issue that shows slight wear at the spine and light fading, o/w fine. Also, spectacular two-page illustration by Thomas Nast showing a blindfolded Lady Justice being led by a devil figure to the edge of a cliff as God overlooks from his perch in the clouds holding an hour glass nearly empty. The caption reads, "' 'Tis the times' plague, when madmen lead the blind.' -- Shakspeare." The illustration is in remarkably bright condition and quite suitable for framing. Size is 16" wide and 22" tall. Full-page collage of illustrations by G.S. Reinhart, "The Centennial--Bits from Our Artist's Sketch-Book" and another full-page illustration by Schell and Hogan of the opening day of the Centennial exhibition at the intersection of Elm and Belmont Avenue in Philadelphia.‎
