. Full Calf Silver Mounted, 70mm x 55mm. A very attractive example of 19th Century Florentine book souvenir market. The book is cleverly mediaevalised, with a completely unlettered leather binding with exaggerated raised bands on the spine, and disproportionately large silverplated mounts on each corner of the boards, and a clasp over the foredge. The endpapers are typical 19th century Florentine floral paper. The contents are entirely unmarked apart from a date, 1890 and the name Cleopatra on one leaf, both in pencil. Fine/N/a. [Album Containing Signed Concert Programmes] . Manufacturer's Cream Boards, 4to. This album was carefully compiled by a music loving resident of Bath in the 1950's, and contains a quantity of signed programmes, largely of piano recitals. There are programmes signed by Vitebsky; Claudio Arrau; Denis Matthews; Dennis Brain; Rawicz and Landauer; Mierowski; Rosalyn Tureck; Moiseiwitsch; Irene Scharrer; Leff Pouishnoff; Elena Kudian; Marie Louise Castillo; Eileen Joyce; Solomon; Jose Iturbi; Millicent Silver; Leo Halle; Campoli; Peter Katin; Joseph Weingarten and Shura Cherkassky. In some cases, there are more than one programme signed by some of these artists. Additionally, there are many newspaper review clippings which are reviews and accounts of many of the concerts. The total ensemble provides a fascinating glimpse into the musical activities of a small, if alert provincial city half a century ago. For example, Claudio Arrau drew an audience of thirteen hundred people: would that many turn out for a piano recital nowadays in Bath ? The downside, if such it be, of this album is that all the programmes and newspaper clippings are lightly tipped in. It would be nice to think that the album would not be broken. Vg/N/a.
