Créateur de la plupart des planches gravées du Theatrum Sabaudiae, Giovanni Tommaso Borgonio fut, au XVII siècle, le grand illustrateur piémontais de la Savoie, où il séjourna entre 1672 et 1675. Ingénieur des fortifications, topographe, cartographe et dessinateur, il travailla dans le cercle des décorateurs des ballets et fêtes baroques avec le peintre Carlo Conti. ‎London, 1650, Sheet Map Near Fine. c. 500mm x 62mm Copper plate engraving, with bright original colour, title panel just right of the centre top, armorials to top corners, and its most distinctive feature, the pyramid of armorials bottom left which includes John of Gaunt, Simon de Montfort and Robert Dudley, there is further decoration and a scale showing English and German miles bottom right. This is a very nice example with bright colours, good lines, and a nice clear plate mark. The margins are wide and straight and the sheets edges are very good indeed, with one v. small nick at the top. Dutch text retained on the verso side, covering four pages. Te best example I've seen. The jpeg does not do he map justice! .‎

En haut à gauche figure une représentation du chef indien Powhatan se préparant à recevoir le captif John Smith. Texte français au verso. Mouillure claire affectant le rebord de la marge droite, sinon bel exemplaire brillamment colorié à l'époque.‎
