Engraved map. 535 x 440 mm. to plate-mark 600 x 490 mm. with margins Centerfold some light offsetting age-toning and offsetting to back otherwise a beautiful bright copy with contemporary hand colouring and a sharp impression from the plate. Fine map of Colombia from Hall's New General Atlas which was published in 1830. Depicting the short-lived Gran Colombia era its borders here encompass Panama Venezuela and Ecuador as well as portions of Guyana Brazil Peru and Costa Rica. It was only a year after the publication of Hall's atlas that Gran Columbia collapsed with the secession of Ecuador and Venezuela. Portions of unincorporated Brazil Peru and Guatemala are also included. Hall 1788-1831 was a British engraver and cartographer who produced a number of popular atlases and who was known for his high technical skill. ‎Adam and Charles Black Hardcover Edinburgh: . A good early Black's atlas with maps showing the USA before the accession of Texas to the union. Bound in original charcoal half morocco with purple cloth boards. Gilt spine titles. Whole book somewhat bowed with the upper board cracking at the joint and near detached. Would benefit from rebinding. Interior very sound. 4 11 1 pages 61 maps as listed 58 page index. Small closed handling tear to double hemisphere world map. The usual bonkers Black's numbering system counting numbering some maps as one some as two regardless of whether they are double page or not - however the main point is that all 61 maps are present and correct as called for in good order. Some have juvenalia in pencil or biro to the verso but with no show through. One map with small biro mark to margin. Tissueguards present. Mild mildew staining to lower board. Overall an essentially sound atlas with some mild flaws but which with a little TLC would be very presentable. Black's atlases pre-1850 are getting increasingly hard to find. Early Edition. Half Morocco. Good/No Jacket. Folio - 17 1/2 Inches.‎
