Umfang/Format: 62 Seiten 8 Anmerkungen: Status nach VGG: vergriffen VORWORT Mit seinen frühen Erzählungen und Romanen fand Wilhelm Raabe den reichen Beifall einer groben Leserschaft denn in ihnen vertrat er eine naiv-idealistische der Gesinnung des Bürgertums um die Jahrhundertmitte weit entgegenkommende Weltauffassung. Seit Raabe jedoch erkannt hatte de die Wirklichkeit nicht den Anschauungen entsprach in denen die Zeit befangen war und er sich deshalb entschloß der Lüge in der schöngeistigen Literatur mit Schärfe entgegenzutreten verließen ihn zahlreiche Leser. Dies hinderte Raabe zwar nicht seiner erkannten Berufung weiterhin zu folgen immerhin fühlte er sich infolge des geringen Widerhalls den seine ernst gemeinten und zuweilen hart zugreifenden Werke fanden in der Mitte seines Lebens vereinsamt. Dies änderte sich erst wieder als ihm aus Anlaß seines sechzigsten und insbesondere seines siebzigsten Geburtstags zahlreiche Huldigungen persönlicher und öffentlicher Art entgegengebracht wurden. Zu dieser Zeit fanden seine Werke erneut Eingang in weiteste Volkskreise. Zum Zeichen dessen daß Raabe auch in den geistig führenden Kreisen des deutschen Volkes zu seiner Zeit ein hohes Maß von Anerkennung und Verehrung fand ist eine Auswahl bisher wenig oder noch gar nicht bekannter Zuschriften wie sie ihm von angesehenen Schriftstellern Künstlern Wissenschaftlern und Philosophen zugegangen sind zusammengestellt.
