Therefore be it Resolved that we this day form ourselves into a Company for the protection of property known by the name style and Title of Newtown Square Horse Company of Newtown Township Delaware County and State of Pennsylvania for the detection of Horse Thieves and the recovery of stolen property."<br/><br/>The Constitution comprises 23 sections outlining the aims of the Company and giving the text of hand bills to be printed to offer rewards for stolen horses.<br/><br/>Section 15th. Members are enjoined strictly to observe the conduct of every stranger coming into their neighborhood without any known business to diligently watch the movements of all suspected persons to acquire a habit of noticing all travellers and horses that come in their ways .<br/><br/>Undated but a notice in the Delaware County American for 22 February 1840 identifies James Lewis of Marple as the Secretary and given the address "at the Sign of the Fox Chase Richard Millison proprietor".
