The identity of "FB" has not been determined.<br/><br/>These drawings were done for the Windward House edition of The Silver Horn the first trade edition after The Derrydale Press limited edition of 1932. Windward House owned by the owners of The Derrydale Press was established in 1933 to provide less expensive and more widely marketed volumes than those issued by Derrydale; The Silver Horn was one of four Derrydale reprints issued under its aegis.<br/><br/>Ralph Ludwig Boyer 1879-1952 a well-known illustrator painter and etcher illustrated four books for The Derrydale Press between 1936-1939 including Tranquility and Random Casts. Bradley was Secretary-Treasurer of the Beaverkill Trout Club from 1910-1929; the club had 43 members at the time of his writing. A brief but detailed section of reminiscences is followed by early photographs of sport along the Beaverkill before World War I including author Geo. M. L. La Branche in mid-cast. Each photograph is titled in a fine hand which Bruns speculates is that of "Lady B." pictured on p. 19. There are also photographs of trout fishing in Maine and other points in New York State and of the author and his friend Charlie Campbell president of the club 1910-1923 fishing for Atlantic salmon in Newfoundland. Campbell was the friend who first brought Bradley to the Voorhees homestead in 1908 and with Bradley formed the Beaverkill Trout Club. Campbell's motto was "It's better just a little farther on". These recollections were evidently composed in 1927 for a speech to fellow members to judge from the text and expanded for publication here.<br/><br/>"A very rare work numbering about 25 copies" Heller. Bradley was Secretary-Treasurer of the Beaverkill Trout Club from 1910-1929; the club had 43 members at the time of his writing. A brief but detailed section of reminiscences is followed by early photographs of sport along the Beaverkill before World War I including author Geo. M. L. La Branche in mid-cast. Each photograph is titled in a fine hand which Bruns speculates is that of "Lady B." pictured on p. 19. There are also photographs of trout fishing in Maine and other points in New York State and of the author and his friend Charlie Campbell president of the club 1910-1923 fishing for Atlantic salmon in Newfoundland. Campbell was the friend who first brought Bradley to the Voorhees homestead in 1908 and with Bradley formed the Beaverkill Trout Club. Campbell's motto was "It's better just a little farther on". These recollections were evidently composed in 1927 for a speech to fellow members to judge from the text and expanded for publication here.<br /> <br /> "A very rare work numbering about 25 copies" Heller. A wonderful work of history, folklore, nostalgia, and sociology by the Newcastle antiquary, John Brand (1744-1806). The first volume deals with holidays and customs associated with them, such as: New Years Eve; Valentine's Day; customs surrounding many long lost feast days; Easter; pagan mid-Summer rites and dances; Allhallow Even; Yule and Christmastide; Harvests; Etc. The second volume deals with customs and ceremonies relating to life events and common folklore, such as: marriage; death; communion; sailors going tp sea; fairs; fairies; devils and witchcraft; omens; charms; divination; Etc. There are also over 30 pages describing games and sports, including: Archery; Boxing; Foot-Ball; Goff or Golf; Nine Pins; Races; the Ring; Wrestling; etc. & etc. First issued as a small octavo in 1777, Brand continued collecting materials for a revised edition for the rest of his life. He acquired a large amount of additional information from the statistical enquiries in Scotland instigated by Sir John Sinclair. A second edition was planned in 1795, but Brand was apparently overwhelmed by the task of arranging systematically so much material. He did not live to complete the project. Instead the collections were purchased after his death by a bookseller for L600 and were incorporated into this new edition by Sir Henry Ellis (1777-1869). It still stands as an entertaining and essential starting point for studies of English folklore and customs. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! W150
