Superbly bound example of a book of almost legendary beauty rarity and importance recounting the author's adventures at Camp Harmony on the Restigouche River in New Brunswick and drawing upon his long experience fishing the river. Dean Sage's contributions to angling literature are few in number but profoundly influential: "Ten Days' Sport on Salmon Rivers" published in the Atlantic in 1875 is a classic account. His library catalogue 2 vols.1896 1904 remains an important document in the history of angling bibliography and collecting. Sage's section on "The Atlantic Salmon" in Salmon and Trout 1902 is a synthesis of his own first hand knowledge as a fisherman and his assessment of the extensive literature. The Ristigouche and Its Salmon Fishing remains the work for which Sage is best known. "Borden 1842-1912 was fond of bindings and the library contained examples of all the better known contemporary craftsmen . in sumptuous modern style" Cannon. One of the pinnacles of nineteenth century fishing book design and production in a striking custom binding by Riviere for a celebrated collector. Wholesale Lumber Merchants Albany N.Y. 8vo. Two intimate letters from Dean Sage member of the prominent Albany firm of lumber merchants founded by his father H.W. Sage. The first is to his prospective sister-in-law Jennie Jane née Curtin 1847-1893 after learning of her engagement to his brother Will. He welcomes her to the family and writes "I think I have never longed so much to meet a person I have never seen." The second letter is to his brother Will William Henry Sage 1844-1924 recalling their great love for each other from boyhood to the present "in spite of our frequent quarrels." Dean Sage 1841-1902 is remembered as author of a great late-nineteenth century sporting book The Ristigouche and Its Salmon Fishing 1888 and as one of the great American angling collectors. unknown‎
