br. «Altrove» è il nome della barca a vela con cui Michele Piancastelli ha fatto il giro del mondo, dal 2009 al 2016. La sua è stata un'avventura umana lunga sette anni, due mesi e diciassette giorni, fatta di incontri in terre lontane, orizzonti infiniti, cieli azzurri e fondali oscuri, mappe da consultare e luoghi da conoscere. Ma non soltanto. A contrassegnare un'esperienza così straordinaria è stata soprattutto una profonda riflessione sul senso della vita, mossa in lui dalla scoperta, in occasione di esami medici di routine svolti nel 2004, di aver contratto la leucemia e di dover quindi riscrivere, dall'oggi al domani, la sua intera esistenza. Operaio in una delle più importanti imprese chimiche del nostro paese, Michele ha affrontato un percorso a ostacoli che si è rivelato, paradossalmente, anche un processo di liberazione. Ha vissuto la malattia, la terapia e infine il trapianto di midollo come una lunga attraversata oceanica nonostante sino a quel momento non avesse mai navigato, ma solo desiderato di farlo. Dopo sette mesi di angoscia e paure, Michele è guarito e si è messo finalmente in viaggio. Sotto coperta, al riparo dai venti, dalle mareggiate e dalle burrasche, alla «cappa» della sua piccola barca antimoderna, si è lasciato alle spalle certezze e conquiste di una vita tradizionale ed è andato in cerca di quell'altrove che per lui è sempre stato l'unico luogo dove sentirsi felice. «Ho ripagato ogni mese di malattia con un anno di viaggio. Il mare mi ha liberato, ha creato uno spazio fra me e il mondo, mi ha insegnato tutto, anche a stare senza di lui».
