‎Cette monographie - la premiere du genre - est une reflexion sur les miniatures hippiatriques grecques, ou se demander pour quel usage et comment le lecteur medieval les ? lisait ? , conduit necessairement a essayer d'expliciter les rapports complexes qu'entretiennent l'illustration et le texte. Apres une presentation generale de la litterature hippiatrique, l'auteur elucide des questions liees a la composition du Corpus hippiatricorum graecorum. L'interet est principalement porte sur les differentes recensions d'un de ses abreges, l'Epitome, et sur sa place par rapport au Corpus hippiatricorum. Ainsi est-on amene a mieux discerner l'histoire de ce traite et celle des deux seuls manuscrits illustres. Vient ensuite un chapitre consacre a l'etude minutieuse de ces deux temoins, le Leidensus Vossianus graecus Q. 50 et le Parisinus graecus 2244. Paleographie et codicologie s'en melent, qui revisent bien des opinions recues sur l'origine des manuscrits. Un re-examen des miniatures des deux temoins est alors possible. Par-dela analyses stylistique et iconographique, trop souvent attachees a la quete absolue de l'archetype, l'auteur analyse les rapports texte/image pour etablir, en definitive, le modus operandi des imagiers et determiner les fonctions concretes pour lesquelles les figures ont ete pensees et concues. De ce regard synchronique decoule naturellement une etude sur la facon dont le lecteur medieval utilisait les images. Les conclusions pratiques se voient donc confrontees aux theories antiques et medievales sur le role de l'image et celui des mots. Ainsi l'image hippiatrique ne saurait etre seulement une simple illustration du texte : elle appartient a l'oeuvre tout autant. L'ouvrage s'adresse aux antiquisants et aux medievistes, historiens de lart et de la medecine veterinaire antique et moderne ainsi qu'aux philologues et a quiconque s'interesse a l'histoire de l'illustration scientifique et des relations entre l'homme et l'animal. ‎Of all the Old Testament books, the Book of Job remains acutely contemporary today. Written between the 6th and 3rd c. B.C., it deals with subjects such as the presence of evil in the world, the misery, the quest for justice, the faith, and the behavior of people when they face sudden twists and turns of life. It seems that the ancient text had been illustrated since the Early Christian period because of its fascinating novel-like narrative style. In her own study on the Book of Job, Stella Papadaki-Oekland probes into all the Byzantine illuminated manuscripts of the illustrated Greek text. The number of miniature illustrations included in these fifteen manuscripts, dating from the 9th to the 16th century, comes to more than 1800 of which 2/3 of the about 380 illustrated herein are previously unpublished manuscript images. The book is an unabridged version with minor changes of Papadaki-Oekland?s Inaugural Dissertation at Heidelberg University (1979) and is published posthumously by her daughters, Helen-Aina and Astrid-Zoe -in homage to Byzantine Art. Vero erede dalla tradizione culturale alcuiniana - e interpretato dai suoi stessi contemporanei come tale - egli porto avanti il piano di politica culturale promosso da Carlo. A tal fine realizzo una glossa sistematica alla sacra Scrittura che, concepita come raccolta ordinata delle spiegazioni dei Padri, conobbe uno straordinario successo. It covers manuscripts produced in Italy and the Iberian Peninsula, ranging from the early Gospels of St Augustine made in sixth-century Rome, through the carefully designed patristic texts from twelfth-century Tuscany and Lombardy, the great law books of thirteenth- and fourteenth-century Bologna, the opulent Books of Hours, elegant Humanistic volumes and enormous Choir Books of the fifteenth century, and finally to the richly decorated and densely ornamented books of sixteenth-century Spain. In addition to the famous treasures, these catalogues include a considerable number of previously unpublished cuttings, among them new attributions to leading artists and exciting discoveries, all of which offer a stimulating source for further research. Every manuscript catalogued is also illustrated, frequently with several images, all reproduced in full colour. Entries for Italian manuscripts are arranged chronologically in the period up to 1200, while manuscripts produced after 1200 are catalogued by region of origin and within that division again by sequence of date. ‎Very Good Turkish Original autograph letter signed (ALS) 'Y. Küm?' sent to his mother from S.S. Tarsus. 21,5x28 cm. In Turkish. Written by a pencil. 1 p. Full. Dated 8-12-1957. He describes his travel route to his mother in Marseilles, to Spain by train, etc. [TRAVEL TO MARSEILLES BY SS TARSUS -EXOCHORDA-] Autograph letter signed 'Y. Küm?'. S / S Tarsus was launched in 1931 by "New York Shipbuilding Co.1" for "American Export linen New York" and was launched under the name SS Exochorda. The ship, which has a capacity of 879 passengers, is 140 meters long and 19 meters wide. Its water section was 8.3 meters. It had 7200 HP steam turbine machine weighing 9298 Groston. Exochorda, previously carrying passengers and cargo, was placed under the order of the United States Land Forces as "Harry E. Lee-AP17" as of 27 December 1940. After being used in logistics services during the Second World War, it was connected to the Toothshipyard in Baltimore on May 9, 1946 and taken out of service. In April 16, 1948, after it's purchased by Turkey, it was named Tarsus by Turkish politician Kasim Gürlek.‎
