Il fit jouer plusieurs pièces au théâtre et fit oeuvre de portraitiste avec des ouvrages consacrés à Antoine à Barrès à Balzac à Maurras à Sacha Guitry et à Molière. Ami de Maurras et de Léon Daudet il soutint le maréchal Pétain pendant l'occupation allemande. Entré à l'Académie Goncourt en 1938 mais alors que La Varende préfère démissionner à partir de 1944 il n'est plus convoqué aux déjeuners académiques tout comme Jean Ajalbert et Sacha Guitry. Le présent titre est un hommage à son fils tué lors de la campagne d'Alsace en 1945. unknown
