Inhalt: Das Dekameron enth�lt �hundert Geschichten Fabeln Parabeln oder wirkliche Begebenheiten� so Boccaccio �die zur verderblichen Zeit der letzten Pest von sieben Damen und drei jungen M�nnern erz�hlt wurden�. Den Namen Dekameron bildete Boccaccio aus den griechischen W�rtern deka zehn und hemera Tag. Zehn junge Adelige erz�hlen an zehn Tagen jeweils zehn Geschichten. Mit der alten heiligen Zahl Zehn war Boccaccio durch das ptolem�ische Himmelssystem vertraut in ihrem symbolischen Bezug kannte er sie aus R Dantes G�ttlicher Kom�die mit ihren 100 Ges�ngen. Jeden Tag wird einer der Teilnehmer zum K�nig oder zur K�nigin gew�hlt und legt ein Leitthema fest zu dem jeder eine Geschichte erz�hlen soll. Nur am ersten Tag an dem das Reglement noch nicht befolgt wird und am neunten Tag an dem man von ihm ausruhen will wird kein Leitthema bestimmt. Nach dem zehnten Tag wird einstimmig beschlossen dass die Gesellschaft ins pestverseuchte Florenz heimkehrt. Die 100 ernsten und heiteren erbaulichen und frivolen Geschichten sind in eine Rahmenerz�hlung � Florentiner Adelige fliehen vor der Pest auf ein Landgut � kunstvoll eingeflochten. Boccaccio verleiht dem Werk trotz seiner Mannigfaltigkeit eine Einheit. Ist die Gattung der Rahmenerz�hlung aus dem Orient seit Jahrhunderten bekannt so brachte Boccaccio sie in Europa als Erster zu klassischer Vollkommenheit. Der Rahmen dient nicht rein �sthetischen und Kompositionsaspekten sondern bildet den Hintergrund f�r treffende Gesellschafts- und Landschaftsschilderungen. Lebensprall sind seine amour�sen Szenen deren Sprache trotz ihrer schwankhaften drastischen Derbheit nie lasziv sondern in ihrer sinnlichen Direktheit bisweilen komisch wirkt. Neben frivolen Szenen wird auch das Bild aufopferungsvoller Liebe wie in der Geschichte von Griselda heraufbeschworen die trotz Qualen dem Geliebten treu bleibt. Wirkung: Das Dekameron beeinflusste in seiner kunstvollen und doch lebensnahen Erscheinungsform nachhaltig die abendl�ndische Literatur und blieb in seiner Form �ber zweieinhalb Jahrhunderte vorbildlich. Erst mit den Exemplarischen Novellen von Miguel de R Cervantes trat ein neues Leitbild auf den Plan. Doch wirkte Boccaccios Meisterwerk auch auf die weitere Entwicklung der Gattung.
