Mandarin leather spine and corners with teal-and-mandarin lithographed botanical panels. Raised bands on spine with deeply embossed and gilded botanical imprints; author and title in gold within black compartment; illustrator's name stamped in gold at foot of spine. Textblock edges stained crimson. Entirely in German. Minor chafing of color on spine bands and leather corners; spine gilding brilliant. Shelf erosion of bottom board edges and some wear to board fore-edges. Textblock clean unmarked square and tight in binding. Colors of lithographic illustrations remain very bright. Prolific German novelist and playwright Klabund Alfred Henschke here translates Boccaccio for a German audience from the original unabridged uncensored text. Vi � rappresentato un trionfo di donne famose di evidente ispirazione al �Polifilo� con Lucrezia come sua eroina �Lucrecia Perusina� i.e. Lucrezia Baglioni Vitelli cui il traduttore dedica l�edizione. Precedono il testo in grandi caratteri tondi la dedica del traduttore ed un Proemio. Al verso dell'ultima c. "Stampado in Venetia per maistro Zuanne de Trino: chimato sic Tacuino: del anno de la nativita de Christo. m.d.vi. adi. vi. de marzo 1506: regnante linclito Principe Leonardo Lauredano". Il volume � magnificamente illustrato da 105 piccole figure xilografate nel testo alcune ripetute con ritratti di donna a figura intera ambientate in vari tipi di paesaggi ed ornato da grandi iniziali su fondo nero. "Prima traduzione italiana" ad opera di Vincenzo Bagli molto rara. Cfr. Sander1088: "Dans le texte nombreuses figures 15 diff�rentes r�p�t�es jusqu'au nombre de 105� - Essling1505: ". figures de femmes c�l�bres dans la fable ou dans l'histoire. La plupart des figures sont tir�es avec deux blocs l'un contenant le corps du personnage � partir des �paules l'autre superpos� au premier et contenant la tete et l'attache du buste; de telle sorte que le meme bloc par l'adaptation d'une tete ou d'une autre part sert � repr�senter diff�rentes femmes" - Choix de OlschkiI515: "Premi�re et rarissime �dition italienne" - Bacchi della Lega pp. 22/23. �L�opera scritta tra il 1360 e il 1362 ampliata e rifusa negli anni successivi contiene la biografia di 104 donne illustri di tutti i tempi da Eva alla regina Giovanna di Napoli ed � dedicata dal Boccaccio alla bellissima Andrea Acciaiuoli. Non appare chiaramente quale tipo o ideale muliebre il Boccaccio vagheggi e proponga come modello ai suoi lettori. Pi� chiaro invece � lo spirito misogino che circola nel trattato per cui certe eroine sono lodate come eccezioni confermanti la regola: la donna � debole tortuosa soggetta a tutti i vizi e in special modo alla lussuria. Nel suo complesso il "De claris mulieribus" � un compromesso tra l�erudizione storica e la novella un piacevole libro di erudizione con episodiche infusioni di moralit��. Cos� Diz.
