Entro custodia edit. in cart. rigido decorato. Edizione composta e impressa a mano su carta di Pescia in 86 esemplari numerati (ns. n. 82). Perfetta conservazione. Rarissimo secondo libro stampato dal Riva, mancante anche al catalogo Pregliasco n. 75 (L'arte del libro del Novecento italiano), che tuttavia ne parla ampiamente nell'introduz. alla serie dei libri del Riva a pag. 51: "L'attività del Riva come tipografo domenicale cominciò oscuramente nella cantina della sua casa; nell'estate del 1954. Subito dopo la prima e incerta prova, cominciarono a uscire dal suo torchio libri accurati e bene impressi. Già il secondo, le Rime all'Italia del Maffei, contiene tutta la poetica riviana: il frontespizio di grande compostezza, un accorto impiego di fregi, l'uso del colore, una bella silografia impressa con lo stesso torchio tipografico, la stampa nitida con il carattere Garamond tondo dello Stempel, uno tra i più bei caratteri del registro, una nota filologica dello stampatore. Elementi tutti questi che, variamente dosati, persisteranno durante l'arco di ventott'anni di attività".

Piccolo strappo al margine interno di 3 tavole che lambiscono l’immagine, strappo al margine interno della tavola in prossimità della delegazione vaticana che si estende circa 40 mm, tenue vecchia macchia di umidità all’ultima tavola. Legatura coeva in vitello, dorso a nervi e scomparti decorati col giglio Farnese in oro, tagli a spruzzo rossi.

'Ben' Maggs (1862-1935), eldest of the brothers and second President of the ABA, died on 4 October 1935; the tribute comprises a two-leaf insert with mounted photograph.
