‎Sehr gutes Exemplar. - Aus der Einleitung: "Der Beginn der Moderne", hieß es im Vorwort der 1988 im Helmut Buske Verlag Hamburg unter gleichem Titel erschienenen Vorgängerpublikation, "wird sowohl historisch als auch literaturgeschichtlich gemeinhin mit dem Beginn der Meiji-Zeit, dem Jahre 1868, gleichgesetzt. Die vorliegende Bibliographie versammelt deutschsprachige Übersetzungen seitdem erschienener japanischer literarischer Werke, erfaßt also einen Zeitraum von 120 Jahren. Die bibliographisch systematische Bearbeitung endet mit dem Jahre 1987; danach veröffentlichte Übersetzungen wurden registriert, soweit sie zugänglich waren." -- Die "danach", also 1988 bis 1994 veröffentlichten Übersetzungen nahmen an Zahl derart sprunghaft zu - in dem genannten Zeitraum wurden selbst ohne Berücksichtigung der zugleich erschienenen zahlreichen Nachdrucke und Auszüge mehr Übersetzungen japanischer Prosa publiziert als in den hundert Jahren zwischen 1868 und 1968 -, daß bald schon eine aktualisierte Neuauflage dringend erforderlich wurde. Die Vorarbeiten dazu gaben Gelegenheit, auch "die Zeichnung des Porträts und den Plan des Ganzen" zu überdenken, ohne freilich von der großen Zielsetzung abzugehen, nämlich der möglichst umfassenden Dokumentation ins Deutsche übertragener japanischer Prosawerke (einschließlich solcher, die aus Drittsprachen übersetzt wurden). Nach wie vor keine Aufnahme fanden "die zahlreichen Nachdichtungen und Nacherzählungen klassischer japanischer Märchen- und Sagenmotive, Kinder- und Jugendliteratur sowie die häufig vereinzelt oder entlegen publizierten Übersetzungen japanischer Lyrik. Eine Ausnahme machen hier einige wenige Prosagedichte, vor allem die .lyrischen Prosaskizzen* Inoue Yasushis, und die erste Übersetzung eines meiji-zeitlichen literarischen Textes überhaupt, nämlich Karl Florenz' 1895 erschienene Übertragung des ,Kojo shiragiku-no uta': Weißaster, ein romantisches Epos [-" Nr. 747; das Verdienst der ersten Übertragung eines modernen Prosatextes gebührt dagegen Adolf Wendt, der Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts in Tokyo als Pfarrer wirkte; im Jahre 1904 brachte er Nakamura Shun'us Nozomi no hoshi (Nr. 697) ins Deutsche], Nicht aufgenommen wurden in der Regel auch Texte philosophischer, geisteswissenschaftlicher oder rein literaturtheoretischer Natur. So fehlt in der Reihe der Autoren, um ein Beispiel zu geben, Maruyama Masao, von dem inzwischen einige Texte in deutscher Sprache vorliegen" (Vorwort der 1988er Ausgabe). Nicht aufgenommen wurden außerdem verdeutschte Comics (beispielsweise der im Hamburger Carlsen-Verlag in Serie publizierte "Hardrock-Comic der 90er Jahre" Akira-, entsprechend entfiel die in der alten Bibliographie unter Nr. 466 aufgeführte "Bilder-geschichte gegen den Krieg" Barfuß durch Hiroshima (jap. Hadashi-no Gen, von Nakazawa Keiji; Reinbek bei Hamburg: Rowohlt, 1982). In der Regel wurde jedoch ¡'n dubio pro inclusione entschieden; das betrifft vor allem eine Reihe von Essays und, im Bereich der Kinder- und Jugendliteratur, die Werke von Miyazawa Kenji (-" Nm. 591ff.) sowie Takagi Toshikos Gläsernes Kaninchen (-" Nr. 882). -- Bei Autoren, die sowohl in japanischer als auch in deutscher Sprache publizieren (-" Tawada Yoko), wurden nur solche Werke aufgenommen, die expressis verbis als Übersetzungen ausgewiesen sind.
