‎2 13 1 blank 28 2 212 384 54 pp.First and only edition in Latin of the first official Swiss pharmacopoeia with a preface by the Swiss anatomist and physiologist Albrecht von Haller in Bern and an elaborate armorial frontispiece by Johann Georg Sturm. It takes its title almost word for word from the Wittenberg pharmacopoeia first published in 1741. Although much of the information no doubt comes from that work it is here presented very differently. The main text is divided into three parts: "Materiam medicam" gives an alphabetical list of medicinal plants and other ingredients "Medicamenta simplicia et composita" gives instructions for preparing simple and compound medicines arranged alphabetically by the names of the medicines and "Syllabus medicamentorum" gives a classified list of the simple and compound medicines. With bookplate on pastedown. Some slight browning or foxing a few leaves with small dark-brown spots but otherwise in good condition and with generous margins. The binding is somewhat scuffed with a small tear in the spine and the tapes are broken at the inside of the front hinge. ‎22 196 20 pp. plus 3 plates.Second edition extensively revised and in the original Latin of the official pharmacopoeia of the municipality of The Hague in the Netherlands. The index lists about 500 medicines. In some cases the text simply gives the name of the medicine with a reference to a published source in others it gives a full recipe with the ingredients and instructions for their preparation. The 2-page engraved table printed on two leaves that fold out so that one can consult them while reading the book shows 90 symbols and gives their meanings in alphabetical order. The magistrates and Collegium Medicorum of The Hague initiated the first edition compiled by a committee of doctors from the Collegium but even before it was published there were already complaints about its many and serious errors. They concluded that it was too late to correct them but urged their colleagues to correct them in their own copies and they would be set right in a future edition but in the event they had to wait 80 years for Boucquet's present second edition with the three plates newly engraved for it.With owner's label. With an occasional minor brown spot and some faint offsetting but otherwise in fine condition. The binding shows 1 small worm hole and is very slightly rubbed but still very good. Interleaved with manuscript Dutch translations of the headings and texts on the interleaves and extensive additions and notes mostly on the interleaves but sometimes also on the leaves of the printed book. Half reddish brown parchment ca. 1790.‎

‎8 240 22 pp. plus interleaving.The third and last Utrecht pharmacopoeia in Latin interleaved with an unpublished Dutch translation in manuscript and additional notes. The first Utrecht pharmacopoeia the second to be published in the Dutch Republic appeared in 1656. The second in 1664 was largely a reprint of the 1656 text but the present third in 1749 was extensively revised and expanded. The "vroedschap" city council had proposed in 1748 that the city physicians prepare a new edition. The present copy is especially interesting for the Dutch translation apparently made ca. 1790 but never published. It was clearly made for use by an apothecary and was probably written by one making it an important primary source for understanding the Dutch medical and pharmacological terminology.Lacking one leaf of text and most of the second plate pharmacological symbols M-Z both with photocopies tipped in and the final blank leaf there is no interleaf between O2 and O3 perhaps an oversight when it was prepared and there are occasional stains from use in an apothecary's shop but the book is otherwise in good condition and largely untrimmed.
