Très rare manuel de calligraphie mis au point d’après des modèles de Louis Rossignol et de son élève André-François Roland. L'ouvrage s’ouvre sur une explication de la posture à adopter pour bien écrire, s’en suit une méthode sur la manière de tailler les plumes, puis viennent différents modèles de lettres et d’ornements calligraphiques (Italienne bâtarde, écriture ronde, etc.). Les planches ont été gravées à l’eau-forte et au burin par Le Parmentier, graveur de Sa Majesté. Louis Rossignol (1694-1739) est considéré comme l’un des plus importants maîtres calligraphes du XVIIIème siècle.
