‎First edition, 4to, [2],90pp., lithographed throughout wove paper watermarked "Whatman 1820", inscribed "E. H. Grimston from his affectionate aunt Harriot Grimston Oct 13th 1840", Edward H. Grimston was the second son of the author, and Harriot her sister-in-law, lithographed portrait frontispiece of the author on india-proof paper, title within decorative border, 9 lithographed plates and plans, one etched plate, 11 lithographed armorials in the margins, some light spotting, contemporary half morocco,upper joint split. "Probably the earliest [British] topographical book with its text lithographed... the most striking feature of the book is the discrepancy between the assurance of the writing of the main text and the naivety of the drawings..."?Twyman, Early Lithographed Books, pp. 179-180. Twyman suggests that Charlotte Grimston (wife of the first earl of Verulam who owned Gorhambury) was responsible for the views and plans, but employed a professional lithographic writer for the text. (sign. a8 A-Z8 Aa-Zz8 AAa-EEe8 FFf4), maroquin souple brun, dos lisse semé de fleurs de lys orné d’un médaillon ovale figurant la Crucifixion, titre et devise royale « Spes mea Deus » en pied de dos, médaillon de la Crucifixion répété sur les plats, triple filet à froid d’encadrement, oeillet de fil ocre, tranches dorées (reliure de l'époque).‎

‎Première édition française rare du dominicain Luis de Granada (1504-1588) établie par le chanoine de Reims Nicolas Colin et sortie des presses de Guillaume Chaudière - premier imprimeur des oeuvres du prédicateur à Paris entre 1584 et 1602, dont Le Guide des pécheurs, le Mémorial de la vie chrétienne, les Lieux communs et Discours spirituels rencontrèrent un grand succès à la cour comme à la ville.Précieux exemplaire en reliure souple de pénitent, à l'emblème de la Congrégation des Pénitents blancs de l'Annonciation Notre-Dame, créée par le roi le 20 mars 1583. Henri III (1551-1589), donnant dans une religiosité exacerbée et subissant le sursaut de la Contre-Réforme, fonda dès 1583 plusieurs fraternités de pénitents avec l'objet de préparer ses membres à la bonne mort. Ces congrégations ont commandité l'impression d'ouvrages de spiritualité qui furent parfois reliés et ornés d'emblèmes par de grands maîtres, tels Clovis Ève et Georges Drobet. « La présence des armoiries de France au dos des volumes s'explique par les relations privilégiées qui liaient les membres de ces confréries de pénitents à leur fondateur » (Paul Culot). L'exemplaire présente sur les deux plats un médaillon ovale de la Crucifixion de type 2 selon l'Essai de typologie des fers de la Crucifixion (L. Coulet, Jamet Métayer et les confréries de pénitents) qui répertorie 9 versions « avec des bordures et formats différents » - ainsi décrit : « Christ frontal et droit, boucle flottante du périzonium à gauche. À la verticale de la Croix, le crâne d’Adam surmonte deux tibias en sautoir. De part et d’autre du stipes, la Vierge et saint Jean, bras croisés sur la poitrine ; à l’arrière-plan, collines et ville de Jérusalem. Nuages formant quatre festons sous le patibulum. Soleil et lune de part et d’autre du titulus quadrangulaire ». Superbe exemplaire réglé à grandes marges en reliure de pénitent, en maroquin aux armes et à la devise royale de Henri III (Spes mea Deus) ornée de rares oeillets de fil ocre en guise de fermoir. Ex-libris manuscrit à l'encre du temps sur le titre « Francisci Creusot ». Les 4 feuillets A2, A7, Q4 et Q5 manquent.Deux exemplaires au Catalogue collectif de France (Toulouse et Amiens). ‎RARE 16th-century edition of the "Thesaurus Linguae Sanctae", a Hebrew-Latin dictionary for Catholic ministers, originally composed during the early 16th century by the Dominican Bible scholar St.Pagnini. The dictionary appended a list of nominalization patterns and a list of irregular nouns. This edition was printed by the famous Dutch publisher Christopher Plantin at 1570, during the first years of the religious strife that came to be known as the Eighty Years' War. The book features the publisher's elaborate emblem on the title page, a decorative first capital letter on the first text page, and floral title bars in several places throughout the book. The book ends with a royal privilege from Emperor Maximilian II. 115x165mm. Unpaginated preface and appendix. 380 pages (irregular pagination: [188] + [193-380], but the text is COMPLETE. Rebound in black cloth Hardcover. Gilt lettering on spine. Ex libris and binder's stickers on endpaper. Pen inscriptions (dated 1752) on title page, and outside the text on few other pages. Last text page upper edge slightly torn - NO damage to text. Pages yellowing. [SUMMARY]: This 16th-century old Plantin dictionary is surprisingly preserved in very good condition.‎

Apparato illustrativo editoriale affidato al pittore Achille Funi, che si esercita nell’arte xilografica componendo sette piccoli quadri classicizzanti che ricordano la vena dell’ultimo Severini. Editore il conte Castelbarco della galleria Bottega di Poesia, curioso tipo dannunziano che animerà la Milano degli anni ’20 dando spazio ad artisti quali Tamara de Lempicka e Alberto Martini.‎

Sarlavla page decorated with traditional ornaments. First edition of this extremely rare and the first translation of the Anabasis of Alexander in the Ottoman / Turkish literature. One of 1010 copies. The Anabasis of Alexander was composed by Arrian of Nicomedia in the second century AD, most probably during the reign of Hadrian. The Anabasis (which survives complete in seven books) is a history of the campaigns of Alexander the Great, specifically his conquest of the Persian Empire between 336 and 323 BC. Both the unusual title "Anabasis" (literally "a journey up-country from the sea") and the work's seven-book structure reflect Arrian's emulation (in structure, style, and content) of the Greek historian Xenophon, whose own Anabasis in seven books concerned the earlier campaign "up-country" of Cyrus the Younger in 401 BC. The Anabasis is by far the fullest surviving account of Alexander's conquest of the Persian Empire. It primarily revolves around the military history, reflecting the content of Arrian's model, Xenophon's Anabasis; the work begins with Alexander's accession to the Macedonian throne in 336 BC and has nothing to say about Alexander's early life (in contrast, say, to Plutarch's Life of Alexander). Nor does Arrian aim to provide a complete history of the Greek-speaking world during Alexander's reign. Arrian's chief sources for his writing of the Anabasis were the lost contemporary histories of the campaign by Ptolemy and Aristobulus and, for his later books, Nearchus. One of Arrian's main aims in writing this work on history seems to have been to correct the standard "Vulgate" narrative of Alexander's reign that was dominant in his own day, primarily associated with the lost writings of the historian Cleitarchus. The Anabasis gives a broadly chronological account of the reign of Alexander the Great of Macedonia (336-323 BC), with a particular focus on military matters. George Rhasis (Yorgaki Razi) translated Anabasis Alexandrou = "History of Alexander the son of Philip" the work of Xenophon under the title "Târîh-i Iskender bin Filipos". This is the first translation of an ancient Greek historian into Turkish. Georgios Rhasis, who was one of the first writers of the French-Turkish dictionary in the early period, was an Ottoman intellectual who worked as an instructor and translator in Ottoman and French languages. He also taught at the Eastern Languages School in Paris and continued her studies in Corfu and Paris. In 1821 he came to be in Istanbul as a famous orientalist. Rhasis left the city and the homeland he lived in to settle in Tsarist Russia due to concerns during the Greek Revolution in 1821. The Bulaq or El-Amiriya Press is the first official and governmental printing press to be established in Egypt, and functions according to industrial printing basis, causing not just a qualitative but also a quantitative and knowledgeable leap in science throughout the Arab region. It's established in 1820 by Muhammad Ali Pasha of Egypt and Sudan (1769-1849) and it was part of Muhammad Ali's inclusive development plans for the modernization of Egypt.
