Officina Mardersteig. Un incontro con Martino Mardersteig

La figura dello stampatore-editore nasce nella seconda metà del Quattrocento, quando persone di grande cultura iniziarono a vedere nella stampa al torchio il mezzo per divulgare e rendere accessibile ad un numero più ampio di studiosi i testi più importanti, prima in latino e greco e poi in volgare. L'ultimo umanista del genere fu, nel Novecento, mio padre, Giovanni Mardersteig che ebbe la capacità di disegnare i propri caratteri (Griffo, Zeno e Dante), di scrivere testi fondamentali per la storia della tipografia, e di stamparli sul proprio torchio dell'Officina Bodoni, e quindi, di renderli accessibili al pubblico. [...] Il destino, poi, lo spinse verso Sud e lo portò prima a fondare l'Officina Bodoni a Montagnola di Lugano, poco lontano dalla casa di Hermann Hesse, e dopo cinque anni, nel 1927, all'età di 35 anni, a Verona, per stampare l'Opera Omnia di Gabriele D'Annunzio, e dove trovò il luogo dove stabilirsi definitivamente. In seguito la produzione dell'Officina Bodoni fu talmente ammirata, da essere imitata.

The brochure lists all his publications up to that point. Profusely illustrated in black & white and color. Large folio, 13" high X 10"wide.
