This 'New Edition' also features a preface by Dante Gabriel Rossetti's brother and noble English writer and critic in his own right William Michael Rossetti. This work was originally published under the title 'The Early Italian Poets' in 1861; republished in 1874 under the current title 'Dante and His Circle'. With publisher's advertisements to the rear of the text. With an ink inscription of a 'D. E. Rhodes' from 'Sidney Sussex College Cambridge to the verso of the front free-endpaper and the recto of the half title page dated '12 February 1946'. Condition: In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally excellent with minor shelfwear to extremities and fading to spine. Slight bumping to head and tail of spine resulting in small split to cloth to head of spine. Internally firmly bound. Pages very slightly age toned but very bright and clean with the odd spot heavier to first few pages. Small closed tear to upper extremity of front free-endpaper and half title page. Prior owner's ink inscription to verso of front free-endpaper and recto of half title page. Ink mark to fore edge of page 69 and page 113 to 129 not affecting text.
