Rare Italian text of Herzl's diary as he thinks through his ideas for a Jewish State photographs spans 1895-1904 VG mend at lower left corner by spine softcover 332pps. Published first in Berlin 1922 in 3 volumes later in 5 volumes in English 1960. Neither did the publication history of the diaries help to make them available to a wide audience. The first Hebrew translation 1930 was reprinted many times but the first full edition of the diaries based on the manuscripts housed at the Central Zionist Archives in Jerusalem appeared paradoxically not in the original German but in an English five-volume translation published by the Herzl Press in New York in 1960. Professor Dante Lattes a noted early Jewish Zionist scholar wrote a number of works on the history and philosophy of Zionism. Dr. Lattes studied at the Rabbinical College in Leghorn and became an early devotee of Zionism to which he dedicated his life. He was lecturer at the Rome Rabbinical College. He served as secretary of the Zionist Federation and later as its honorary president. He also founded and edited the monthly Rassegna d� Israel one of the world�s top-level Jewish periodicals.
