A loose adaptation of the popular 1925 silent film directed by James Cruze retelling a largely fictionalized account of the formation of the US mail system. Charlton Heston plays a gritty Buffalo Bill Cody and Forrest Tucker plays Wild Bill Hickock. In reality however Wild Bill Hickock never rode for the Pony Express Buffalo Bill Cody was only fourteen when he rode for the route and the route itself ran for only eighteen months of service before being superseded by the transcontinental telegraph. Included are shots of planes in flight and several others of star Douglas Fairbanks Jr. With holograph annotations to the album pages identifying most of the photographs; 2 16 vernacular photographs taken on the set of the pre-Code film "The Life of the Party" Roy Del Ruth 1930 and 18 vernacular photographs of the sinking of the RMS Tahiti off cost of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands on August 16-17 1930 taken from the nearby SS Ventura.<br/><br/>The front cover of the photo album identifies the photographer as J.N. Boucher and he appears four times in the album twice dressed as a pilot in "The Dawn Patrol" section and twice in "The Life of the Party" section in one standing in front of a Vitaphone truck along with a man identified as Dolph Thomas who worked as an uncredited sound engineer on the film.<br/><br/>Photographs variously sized generally between 3.5 x 2.5 and 5.25 x 3.25 inches Very Good plus. Based on the short story by Hagar Wilde which originally appeared in Collier's Weekly magazine on April 10 1937.<br/><br/>Zoologist David Huxley Grant develops a wary interest in the niece of dowager Mrs. Carelton Random Hepburn which as in all great screwball comedies is not finalized as a romance until about the last ten seconds of the film. But what makes this film singular is that the story is built around the maintenance aspects of raising a pet leopard creating a rapid-fire blur of events and dialogue that doesn't let up for the entire 102-minute running time. The film bombed upon release causing RKO to drop both of the stars but today ranks as one of the best films made by either. <br/><br/>8 x 10 inches. Mamie Van Doren is Harriet Ames the flirtatious bombshell of course and "the Queen of the B's" the fabulous Marie Windsor is Julia Parry Edmund's dutiful companion and sister.<br/><br/>Filmed in and around the Parry Lodge in Kanab Utah.
