Laid in is a typed letter dated 8 August 1946 to the author's husband Sidney H. Webb from the Medici Society who had published many of Mrs St John Webb's earlier titles informing him that they don't think they could make a success of reprinting this title and therefore returning to him the copy he had sent them. The letter is signed J. Gurney Managing Director and is quite foxed. Sidney Webb has written his address in pencil on the front endpaper requesting that the book is to be returned to him if not required. Sidney H. Webb wrote a few minor novels.
