King Spider: Some Aspects of Louis XI of France and His Companions
Hartford: Coward McCann 1929. This First Edition with the publisher's colophon on the copyright page and with 1929 on both title and copyright page is in Very Good condition. The author details the rather diabolical reign of Louis XI and shows how in his spider-like web he managed to accrue and strengthen his power over every social and political aspect of French life. The book is bound in a warm brown cloth with a blind-stamped spider design on the front panel and die-stamped gilt titles on the front panel and spine. There is rubbing at the spine tips as well as a bite mark probably from a dog measuring about 1 1/4 inches at the very top of the rear panel which does not affect the interior. The binding is secure and the text pages are clean and bright. There are 12 illustrations including a frontis portrait of the king. Some illustrations have unattached tissue guards. The book measures 6 1/4 by 9 1/4 inches and includes 501 pages with appendices. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Dust Jacket. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Coward McCann Hardcover
