Bowden's fascination with rarely seen Aboriginal rock art is a major theme in his continuing love affair with Australia. On their journey Tim and wife Ros explore the Kimberley by land and sea where dramatic 12-metre tides guard coastal locations unchanged by time - still as 17th-century buccaneer William Dampier first described them. For three months Tim and Ros and their trusty four-wheel-drive Penelope travelled from the improbably sculptured Bungle Bungles to the Pilbara and the wildflower-filled Mid West. Bowden's enthusiasm for history is clear and his book is peppered with stories of present and past ill-fated settlements and expeditions tragic tourist deaths and the grandeur of Australia's intriguing spectacular north-west. Book is in very good condition with some edge wear. Tips of the corners bumped and worn; spine ends especially lower spine corners rubbed with a tiny tear on one point. The page block may have some toning or it was that color from the beginning I cannot tell. There are two light creases on the front cover in addition to spine and hinge creases. There is the usual surface smudging and scuffing. The interior pages are clean and bright and the binding is tight but 1 page of photographs is loose. I inspected the binding and can see no flaws or weakness so I assume the page was deliberately pulled out for some purpose of previous owner. The picture is a scan of the actual book.
