Octavo; black cloth and paper-covered boards with titles stamped in gilt on spine; black topstain; dustjacket; 255pp 1. Fine in a very Near Fine dustjacket unclipped with a single tiny tear at base of spine. Together with a Fine example of the publisher's 16pp prospectus. In 1962 Grove Press issued a promotional booklet to accompany the November 20 1962 American publication of 'Naked Lunch' a scarce and desirable piece of ephemera. Publisher Barney Rosset printed the prospectus with an obscenity trial in mind with the entire document reading like a legal argument to establish 'Naked Lunch�s' literary merit before a courtroom. The pamphlet opens with a short essay by Terry Southern followed by a critical piece by E.S. Seldon. The remainder of the pamphlet contains an eight page selection from the novel. A terrific piece of ephemera that is rarely offered together with the novel and one that is essential to understanding the early publication history of 'Naked Lunch' the establishment of the book�s critical reception and the novel�s many court battles over the years. To the best of our knowledge the two essays contained within have not been printed in any other format.
