First issue with 3 line errata at foot of xiv p. 317 William p. 371 B2 pp. 469 470 472 473 Rigaud. Bound in modern three quarter tan calf over green cloth boards spine ruled and decorated in gilt with raised bands. Contrasting title labels one red one green. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. Except for some darkening to frontispiece and title and some marginal darkening to some plates a very bright and clean copy. Eight of the plates are in the “dark” state; all eight of these along with several other plates were bound with tissue guards which have kept them very well preserved. There is one binding error where the binder a plate in the wrong direction. The plate that should face p. 250 instead faces p. 251 and its tissue guard is on the wrong side. Notwithstanding this error the plate is as nicely preserved as the other “dark” plates. Overall a very attractive copy. Gimbel A141. Subject: Modern First.
