The extremely large audience for the novel in All the Year Round however left less than the usual demand for the parts issue and at first for the book both of which are now quite rare. Bound in three quarter calf over marbled boards with gilt titles and tooling to the spine raised gilt bands marbled endpapers and all edges. Illustrated by H. K.Browne. Language: English. Book Condition: Good: Light wear to corner edges and spine ends. Lightly rubbed. Cracked front spine edge and hinge. Tightly bound with clean intact endpapers and strong hinges. Spotting to front and rear pastedowns endpapers fly false title and frontis pages. Lighter spotting to remaining prelims. Spotting and marks to plates and other adjacent pages. Some stains to upper section of some plates. DJ Condition: No DJ Pages 379. Size: 8vo 20cm by 12cm. BOOK RESUME: The Library Edition came about on the suggestion of Forster that there was no high-quality edition that would appeal to the wealthy. With a dedication to Forster the Library Edition appeared in 22 volumes in 1858-9 at 7s 6d per volume. The only illustrations were the frontispieces. Between 1861 and 1874 this edition was reissued in 30 volumes with the addition of Tale of Two Cities Great Expectations Our Mutual Friend The Uncommercial Traveller A Childs History of England Christmas Stories and Drood. The reissue contained illustrations by artists such as Marcus Stone John Leech and Clarkson Stanfield and came to be known as the Illustrated Library Edition. Chapman and Hall in 1873 published a prospectus for the Second Illustrated Library Edition published in 30 volumes between 1873 and 1876 and sold at £15 a set. Chapman and Hall hardcover

Spine faded covers slightly faded slightly rubbed and bumped and spine slightly cocked. Internally the text is fairly bright and clean plates with usual browning to edges and occasionally to image two with marginal tears.
