No publication date but the end pages are red with photos from the 1930s movie starring Dickie Moore. This being the first film adaptation of Oliver Twist to have sound. There is a gift inscription on the page before the title page dated 1932. The dust jacket is in good condition for its age with a bit of wear and tear and chipping along the edges. The colors are still strong. Light green and black and white. There is a list of Famous Tales of Adventure on the back panel. The jacket is in new mylar. Hardcover. Stone Marcus. 26.2 x 16.8 cm. Wood engraved portrait of Dickens after Marcus Stone and 34 parts in 19 vols. This was the first American periodical in parts. Each part appearing one month after the first British serial publication which ran from May 1854 to November 1865. Harper and Brothers purchased advance proofs of the work paying 1000 pounds to assure that the issue in the Magazine was probably its first appearance in the United States. The business relations of Dickens with Bradbury & Evans ended with "Little Dorrit." It was the last of the big novels issued by this firm. This novel like "Pickwick" was an assault on the archaism of imprisonment for debt. First issue with white slip in the center of p. 481 in part XVI and uncorrected errors Rigaud/Blandon in part XV B2 instead of BB2 on page 371 with Gimbel second issue point of page 573 correctly numbered. Copy number '65' of an edition limited to only 200 copies printed on the Press's own making of Magnani using 11pt Bell type and Nineteenth Century wooden type ornaments. Original red cloth-backed patterned paper- covered boards with a matching slipcase printed paper labels to the front book cover and to the spine of the slipcase. Quarto 10½" x 10¼" pp. 6 54 with seven tipped-in illustrations and one tipped-in and tissue guarded autographed preparatory sketch by Chris Burke.
