The Caxton Publishing Company. Very Good. The novel - Barnaby Rudge in two volumes bound in a most attractive quarter morocco leather. Four raised bands to the spines. The leather embossed with several bands to the spines with seven gilt embossed bands and gilt titling in a maroon title block. The boards are marbled. New endpapers. These two volumes are from the London edition of the works of Charles Dickens - volume xix and volume xx. Half title pages present in each volume. Each volume with a coloured frontispiece. Four additional coloured plates to volume one and ten plates in black and white as called for. Two additional coloured plates and six other plates to volume two. Some scattered light foxing. A couple of very slight soil marks to the marbled boards - hardly noticable. A very fresh attractive two volume leather bound work of Dicken's masterpiece. The Caxton Publishing Company hardcover

A super near complete set 12 of 15 volumes being an exact facsimile in every detail of text and illustration excepting only the title pages of the last edition of his works published under the eye of Charles Dickens and described by him as "this best edition of my books" . Although the original series comprised thirty volumes there is the complete edition contained within 15 volumes by printing two volumes as one. No date - c 1910. Beautiful burgundy cloth richly embossed with floral/Greek frieze to boards and rich gilt embossed titling to spines. Each volume illustrated in the text The volumes are A Tale of Two Cities and Great Expectations; Martin Chuzzlewit Volumes I II; Christmas Stories and Edwin Drood; Sketches by Boz and Oliver Twist; Christmas Books etc; The Old Curiosity Shop Volumes I II; Dombey and Son Volumes I II; David Copperfield; Barnaby Rudge and Hard Times; Bleak House; Nicholas Nickelby; Uncommercial Traveller etc. Bound in uniform red buckram with embossed pattern to the boards making this an attractive set. Gilt embossed lettering to the spines. Numeous full page illustrations by H. K. Browne througout support the text. Slight/ light fading to the spines. Bleak House has light turning in of the cloth at the head and tail of the spine and a light bump to the head of the front board. A few light soil marks to the upper fore edges. Nicholas Nickelby has a light bump to the head and tail of the spine. Barnaby Rudge has a light bump to the cloth at the head of the spine and light turning in of the cloth at the tail of the spine. One corner slightly bumped and the top corner of the front board has been lightly bowed in. Light crease to the top corner of pp 159 - 243 not affecting any of the text. David Copperfield has light turning in of the cloth at the head and tail of the spine and there are several light foxspots to the upper fore edge. Slightest of bumps to the two corners of the front board. A Tale of Two Cities has a light bump to the cloth at the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine is lightly turned in and a slight bump to the tail of the front board. Uncommercial Traveller etc has a bump to the head of the spine. Martin Chuzzlewit has a slight bump to the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine is turned out and slightly creased. Christmas Stories has light bumps to the head and tail of the spine and to the head of the rear board. Sketches by Boz has a bump to the head of the spine with slight assocaited creasing to the cloth and there is occasional scattered light foxing to the upper fore edges. Christmas Book etc has a light bump to the head of the spine and the cloth at the tail of the spine is lightly turned in. Slight occasional foxing to the upper fore edges. Dombey and Son has bumps to the head and tail of the spine and a few very slight scrtatches to the upper fore edges in no way affecting the page margins themselves. Old Curiosity Shop has the slightest of niks to the cloth at the head of the spine and both the head and tail of the spine is lightly turned in. The books are well preserved being fresh and clean with tight bindings. A very good very attractive well preserved uniform largely complete set of the Waverley novels by Charles Dickens. Macmillan & Co. Limited. Very Good. Dickens - the works - 20 volumes published by Macmillan in the late 1920's and 1930's in an attractive uniform olive cloth with gilt embossed titles to the spine. Twelve of the volumes have a Hornsey County School prize bookplate to the front end paper and their school circular emblem embossed to the front board in gilt. The other 8 do not but are entirely uniform with this edition - all have the same gilt embossed tooling to the spines. Many of the volumes are reprints of the Chapman and Hall first editions. The books remain clean and tight with the occasional bump to the odd corner and to head and tail of spines and some slight occasional rubbing to the boards. A few of the volumes are slightly faded to the spine - none significantly so. The volumes are. Little Dorrit 1929. Bleak House 1928 with gift inscription to the front end paper. Some page corners a little turned. Sketches by Boz 1926. The Pickwick Papers 1931 - neat gift ink inscription to the front end paper. Our Mutual friend 1926. The Old Curiosity Shop and Master Humphrey's Clock 1927. American notes and pictures from Italy 1925. The Adventures of Oliver Twist 1930 - slight insect damage - thinning to corner of front end paper. There is a superb gift inscription in ink which reads ' To Captain Woolf Barnato - with the sincere best wishes of Christopher A Bentley San Francisco Dec. 25 1933.Captain Woolf Barnato whom W. O. Bentley described as his best driver was South African and was one of the legendary Bentley Boys. He won Le Mans in 1928 1929 and 1930. He also famously beat the blue train from Cannes to London in his Bentley in 1930. Gilt embossed lettering to the front board and spines. Both volumes illustrated with 12 full page colour plates as called for and there are headpieces to the preface contents and list of illustration pages. Decorative end papers. The cloth at the tail of the spines are lightly turned in. Rough cut fore edges. The rear board of volume two is slightly soiled. The books are well preserved being fresh clean and tight.
