VERY EARLY PRINTING WITH IDENTICAL PAGINATION TO THE FIRST EDITION. Of all my books“ Dickens once wrote “I like this the best; like many fond parents I have my favourite child and his name is David Copperfield.†It is certainly Dickens’ most personal and autobiographical work especially in the remarkable early chapters describing David’s provincial upbringing and his experiences in the bleak warehouses of London his meet-ups with eccentric aunts nurses orphans ruthless authoritarians back-street women magistrates and criminals. Two of Dickens; most familiar characters are met here his sometime mentor the constantly debt-ridden Mr. Wilkins Micawber and the devious and fraudulent clerk Uriah Heep whose misdeeds are eventually discovered with Micawber's assistance. The story takes David from childhood in the early 19th century through to maturity.
