The story is centered around Dickens's lovable Little Nell character who is forced to flee London with her aged grandfather to escape from the wicked moneylender Daniel Quilp. Illustrated throughout with well-preserved original engraved illustrations mostly by George Cattermole and "Phiz" Hablot Knight Browne. --- In light brown cloth-covered boards backed in dark brown leather with titling in gilt on brown spine label; gilt titling on front cover along with Nonesuch device on brown leather oval; sewn-in red satin ribbon bookmark. "Barnaby Rudge" was first published serially beginning in 1841 and was a historical novel set in 1775. "Edwin Drood" appeared in 1870 and was the last Dickens novel. It was not completed as the author passed away before it could be finished. Issued as part of publisher's Charles Dickens' Complete Works: The People's Edition series. With 200 black and white engraved illustrations by Cruikshank Phiz Barnard and others. --- In brown cloth-covered boards with spine titling & elaborate decorations in black and gilt to cover & spine. The first 20 or so pages of each novel are irregularly paginated. Lacks a dust jacket. --- The volume is quite firm and sturdy though with wear to cover edges light rubbing to cloth and a little yellowing to leaves. A signature at mid-book has become mis-aligned but is still firmly sewn into the binding and a weak front hinge has been carefully reinforced prior to this listing.; Small Octavo 7-1/2 to 8 in. tall; 720 306 pages .
