Avoid the introductions or appendices to this novel since they give away too much of the story a story that depends on suspense and surprise for much of its effect. They are good to read afterwards. Both have original illustrations; a nice feature of the OUP edition is that these are placed near their location in the original edition which affords an insight in to the original readers' experience. Also it's interesting to note where the original serial parts ended; you can tell that from both the OUP and Penguin editions while other editions do not indicate that.
