Carroll, Earl (1893-1948). American theater producer, director, and songwriter
TYPED CLOSE OF A DOCUMENT SIGNED by the American Producer and Director of Broadway Musicals EARL CARROLL.
Very good. - An 18-word close typed on 3-1/4 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide watermarked paper clipped from a larger document. "This consent is given for your benefit as well as for the benefit of your successors or assigns." Signed "Earl Carroll" in black ink at bottom right. There is vertical fold at left else near fine.
The American theatrical producer & director Earl Carroll 1893-1948 was also a songwriter and composer. He produced numerous Broadway musicals including his "Earl Carroll's Vanities" "Earl Carroll's Sketchbook" and "Murder at the Vanities". Famous for featuring lightly clad showgirls in his productions Carroll was known as "the troubadour of the nude". He built the Earl Carroll Theatre in New York and later another on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Carroll was prosecuted and served time for perjury following a 1926 scandal. Carroll had thrown a lavish private party in honor of Harry Kendall Thaw at which a young nude woman was featured bathing in a tub full of illegal liquor. The editor of the New York Mirror Philip Payne was a guest and published a report of the event which drew the attention of Federal authorities. Prohibition being in force authorities investigated and though Carroll denied it happened other guests confirmed the story. Accused of perjury Carroll served six months at the Atlanta Penitentiary. Carroll wrote the scores for the Broadway shows "So Long Letty" "Canary Cottage" and "The Love Mill" even writing the libretto for the latter. unknown

Norman Wisdom in ONE GOOD TURN - Original A2 Cinema Movie Tour Poster 1955
Finland: J. Arthur Rank 1955. 1st Edition . No Binding. Fine. A visually stunning and extremely scarce Finnish A2 tour one-sheet for the Norman Wisdom comedy movie ONE GOOD TURN . The film was released in Finland in September 1955 with no further releases. This a particularly scarce "tour" poster. Tour posters were distributed on request to smaller cinemas and clubs in the smaller towns and villages in the provinces after the main release. The graphics are compressed slightly in the poster to enable space at the bottom top or both for venues to complete by hand in the specially printed margin information concerning time/date/venue of the local screening. These screenings might be in a small local cinema or equally in a local Labour Club or village hall. They were mostly pasted onto telephone poles or at bus stops in the local area so naturally very few survived after use. This poster is clearly one unused example. The poster measures 24" x 16.5" and is in Nr Mint condition with just minor handling creases at the corners. No nicks tears pinholes or residue marks - a really fine example and piece of film memorabilia.

J. Arthur Rank unknown

Castle, William (Director)/Starring Shelley Winters, Howard Duff & Dan Duryea
JOHNNY STOOL PIGEON. An original First Screening A2 Cinema Movie Poster 1950
Finland: Universal Pictures 1950. 1st Edition 1st Printing. No Binding. Fine. A superb-condition cinema-used Finnish A2 poster for the 1949 film JOHNNY STOOL PIGEON starring Howard Duff Shelley Winters and Dan Duryea. The film was first screened in Finnish cinemas in 1950 with no subsequent theatrical runs. This particular poster is a standard size 60cm x 40cm approx. It is in really excellent shape Fine condition. There is a fold line near the top - slanted and visible only from the verso but none to the middle. At the top line of the titles in the letter "a" you can see a mounting hole and there is an enclosed tear surrounding the hole but this is almost invisible - I guess the poster was snatched from it's mounting without any ceremony. No further pinholes. At the bottom edge there is a very short tear and a smaller nick. Otherwise no edge wear apart from some minor handling creasing. The paper is extremely thin and has survived the intervening 70 years fantastically well. Bright clean and vivid. Excellent graphics and design. Signed in the plate by the artist. A fabulous Film noir poster.

Universal Pictures unknown
