‎(Brothers GRIMM). (Gordon BROWNE). Jacob GRIMM and Wilhelm GRIMM.‎

‎Fairy Tales from Grimm. With Introduction by S. Baring-Gould and Drawings by Gordon Browne. [Second Edition]. THE GORDON BROWNE 'GRIMM'‎

‎8vo., Second Edition, with a frontispiece (original tissue guard present), title-vignette, title in red and black, 104 illustrations (a number full-page) in the text, and numerous head- and tail-pieces, some light and occasional spotting; original pictorial ivory cloth, upper board and backstrip elaborately blocked in gilt, red and black, and lettered in black, gilt top, uncut, very neatly rebacked with old backstrip laid down, a very good, bright, firm copy. With 16pp publisher's catalogue bound in at end. Published two months after the first edition. The scarcest of all the late Victorian illustrated versions of the famous Tales, published some two decades before Rackham. The cover artwork is remarkably striking, with fearsome red dragon and rider leading forth from the castle. A well above average copy of a work elusive enough in any state. EXTREMELY SCARCE.‎

‎LI'L MISS STICKY KISS‎

‎Tokyo, Editions Treville & Pan Exotica., 2004, First Edition. (ISBN: 4-309-90565-X) Fuzzy Boards in Acetate Jacket, Small 4to, np, 32 color illustrations + cover. Text in English. This is a stylishly packaged, beautifully printed offering from British born Japanophile Trevor Brown. The artist pushes - as usual - the boundaries of good taste here with these skewed, faux children's book fetish illustrations of his pigtailed, black-eyed schoolgirl creation "Li'l Miss Sticky Kiss". The dust jacket of this unique object is a thick clear acetate that protects the debossed fuzzy pink boards and cover pastedown. A brand new, most handsome example.. Fine/Fine.‎

The first edition was published in 1933. Delightful illustrations (as always with Aldin) accompany Morton's humorous verses. Aldin was responsible for the coloured plates, the full-page line illustrations and all but nine of the smaller sketches (seven are by Trist and two by Sheringham). Heron, p.196 (recording the first edition).‎
