Manuscript presentation on the front fly-leaf "For Charles Greville Esq. / From the Author." The recipient is probably the father of the famous political diarist, Charles Cavendish Fulke Greville (1794-1865). Also with the small printed bookplate of DeWitt Miller, Cross River, Westchester County, NY. DeWitt Miller (born in 1857) was a very famous book collector and public lecturer. This edition is almost identical to Baretti's 'Easy Phraseology for the use of Young Ladies'. The main difference is that it was issued without the Preface written by Baretti's intimate friend, Samuel Johnson. Baretti (1719-1789) was a remarkable character, whose tale cannot be told in this space - except to say that he was a warmly embraced member of Johnson's circle. Attractively bound booklet style in recent blue paper covers with label. An interesting description on ocean tides, using two harbours as example. Features Skælskør (Skaelskor), now a quaint town in the Slagelse municipality, and the fortified port Corsoer, both on the Danish island of Zealand in the Baltic Sea. These are the original pages printed in 1799, and NOT a reprint. This narrative is from a rare multi-volume geographical and scientific journal titled "Allgemeine Geographische Ephemeriden", which issued fifty volumes from 1798-1816 and which encompassed critical contemporary topics of geography and astronomy. Adam Christian Gaspari and Franz Xaver von Zach were editors of this important scientific journal.

Eleanor Hull was a devout laywoman lady-in-waiting to the second wife of Henry IV who spent some of her life in Sopwell Priory a house of Benedictine nuns attached to St. Albans Abbey. She is the first woman to have made translations into English whose name is known and about whom there is any information. In addition to the commentary on the penitential psalms she translated a collection of prayers and meditations.
