‎1540 Portefeuille grand in-quarto (230 X 337 mm) vélin ivoire recouvert de satin bleu (en partie décousu avec petits manques en marge) et bordé d’un fin galon doré, cordons de fermeture brodés de fils couleurs et or (en partie manquants) ; 28 feuillets (dont deux réglés sans inscription et deux autres vierges) sur peau de vélin reliés au portefeuille par un cordon de soie à brins jaune, vert et rouge (Reliure de l'époque).‎

‎SUPERBE DOCUMENT MANUSCRIT ESPAGNOL SUR PEAU DE VÉLIN, entièrement réglé, orné de figures et décoré d'enluminures et d'initiales peintes à la gouache avec rehauts d'or et d'argent. Ce cahier témoigne de la reconnaissance par le conseil du Roi réuni à Grenade le 18 novembre 1540 des titres de noblesse de Gonzalo de TOZO, habitant la ville de Zafra, dans la province de Badajoz, en Extrémadure. DESCRIPTION DU MANUSCRIT : 28 feuillets contenant 48 pages de texte. La première page comporte quelques mots manuscrits et signatures, la dernière six lignes et signatures. L'écriture de deux pages du manuscrit diffère de celle de l'ensemble du document. In fine quatre pages réglées sans inscriptions et quatre pages vierges. Les pages 2 et 3 sont réglées dans un encadrement à trois côtés de bandeaux entièrement ornés d'enluminures à décor de rinceaux de feuillages, trophées d'armes, masques et chimères. La deuxième page : à l'angle gauche du bandeau supérieur, vignette carrée représentant la Reine Jeanne dite « la Folle ». A l'angle droit, vignette carrée contenant le portrait d'un homme jeune portant la toison d'or, certainement Philippe d'Autriche dit « le Beau », époux de la reine Jeanne et père de Charles Quint. Au centre vignette ronde représentant Charles Quint en monarque guerrier (couronne impériale et glaive). Dans les bandeaux latéraux deux autres vignettes carrées avec des personnages masculins. En haut à gauche grande initiale « D » historiée composant une mandorle qui contient une vierge à l'enfant. Marie, debout sur un croissant de lune bleu, porte Jésus dans ses bras, ce dernier tenant une pomme dans la main gauche. Le texte qui suit l'initiale commence ainsi : « Don Carlos por la divina Clemencia emperador semper Augusto Rey de Alemania, dona Juana su madre y el mismo don Carlos [etc.] ». Suit toute la titulature du Roi Charles Quint. En bas et au centre IMPORTANT BLASON, sans doute les armes de la famille de TOZO. La troisième page : à l'angle gauche du bandeau supérieur, vignette carrée représentant un saint tenant dans ses mains un glaive et un livre. Il est coiffé d'un bonnet surmonté d'une coquille Saint-Jacques. Il s'agit probablement de Saint Jacques le Majeur. A l'angle droit, vignette carrée représentant une sainte, probablement Sainte Catherine d'Alexandrie. Elle tient un glaive dans une main et une roue dentée dans l'autre. A la place des vignettes carrées latérales on trouve simplement deux cercles ferronnés. Dans la partie inférieure de la page, grande vignette représentant Saint Jérôme se mortifiant dans le désert. Il tient dans son bras gauche l’agneau et, de la main droite, soulève une pierre dont il se frappe la poitrine. Son chapeau cardinalice et sa cape sont posés sur une branche d’arbre, en arrière-plan. A ses pieds se trouve un lion, l'un de ses emblèmes. A sa droite, le Christ en croix au sommet d'un mont rocheux. La scène se déroule dans un paysage de rocs et de montagnes lointaines, suggérant le désert. Cette vignette est bordée d’un grand cercle bleu serti de filets dorés et inscrite dans un grand rectangle à fond rouge orné de chimères et de végétaux. A la suite, réparties de manière aléatoire au gré des feuillets on trouve neuf initiales peintes dont une initiale « D » dans laquelle est représenté un beau portrait de CHARLES QUINT, le chef couronné et tenant le sceptre dans sa main droite. Ce document est en bel état de conservation : seules quelques pertes de couleurs en marge de la deuxième page sont à déplorer ainsi que quelques usures et manques à la couvrure en satin bleu. EXCEPTIONNEL MANUSCRIT contenant une spectaculaire double page entièrement ornée de figures et scènes peintes, et deux portraits de Charles Quint. Les couleurs vives, variées, chatoyantes, assemblées avec raffinement, le goût sûr de la composition désignent un artiste de tout premier ordre. Nous sommes en possession du CERTIFiCAT D'EXPORTATION et de la LICENCE D'EXPORTATION HORS-CEE pour ce document. SUPERB SPANISH MANUSCRIPT DOCUMENT ON VELLUM, entirely ruled, decorated with figures and illuminations and initials painted in gouache with gold and silver highlights. This book bears witness to the recognition by the King's Council meeting in Granada on November 18, 1540 of the titles of nobility of Gonzalo de TOZO, inhabitant of the town of Zafra, in the province of Badajoz, in Extremadura. DESCRIPTION OF THE MANUSCRIT : 28 leaves containing 48 pages of text. The first page has a few handwritten words and signatures, the last page has six lines and signatures. The handwriting on two pages of the manuscript differs from that of the entire document. In fine four pages ruled without inscriptions and four blank pages. Pages 2 and 3 are set in a three-sided frame of bands entirely decorated with illuminations of foliage scrolls, trophies of arms, masks and chimeras. The second page: at the left corner of the upper band, a square vignette representing Queen Jeanne known as "the Madwoman". At the right corner, square vignette containing the portrait of a young man wearing the golden fleece, certainly Philip of Austria called "the Beautiful", husband of Queen Jeanne and father of Charles QUINT. In the center round vignette representing Charles QUINT as a warrior monarch (imperial crown and sword). In the lateral bands two other square vignettes with male characters. In the upper left corner, a large initial "D" is set in a mandorla containing a virgin and child. Mary, standing on a blue crescent moon, carries Jesus in her arms, the latter holding an apple in her left hand. The text that follows the initial begins: "Don Carlos por la divina Clemencia emperador semper Augusto Rey de Alemania, dona Juana su madre y el mismo don Carlos [etc.]". Follows all the title of King Charles QUINT. At the bottom and in the center IMPORTANT BLASON, probably the arms of the family of TOZO. The third page : at the left corner of the upper band, square vignette representing a saint holding in his hands a sword and a book. He is wearing a cap topped by a scallop shell. It is probably Saint Jacques le Majeur. At the right corner, a square vignette representing a saint, probably Saint Catherine of Alexandria. She holds a sword in one hand and a cogwheel in the other. Instead of the square vignettes on the sides, there are simply two iron circles. In the lower part of the page, a large vignette representing Saint Jerome mortifying himself in the desert. He holds the lamb in his left arm and with his right hand lifts a stone which he strikes on his chest. His cardinal's hat and cloak are resting on a tree branch in the background. At his feet is a lion, one of his emblems. To his right is Christ on the cross atop a rocky mountain. The scene takes place in a landscape of rocks and distant mountains, suggesting the desert. This vignette is bordered by a large blue circle set with golden nets and inscribed in a large rectangle with a red background decorated with chimeras and plants. Following, randomly distributed throughout the leaves, there are nine painted initials, including an initial "D" in which is represented a beautiful portrait of CHARLES QUINT, the head crowned and holding the scepter in his right hand. This document is in a beautiful state of preservation: only a few losses of colors in the margin of the second page are to be deplored as well as some wear and tear to the blue satin cover. EXCEPTIONAL MANUSCRIT containing a spectacular double page entirely decorated with painted figures and scenes, and two portraits of Charles QUINT. The vivid, varied, shimmering colors, assembled with refinement, the sure taste of the composition designate an artist of very first order.
