‎Andrew of Saint Victor, Frans van Liere‎

‎Andrew of Saint Victor, Commentary on Isaiah‎

‎, Brepols, 2023 Paperback, 492 pages, Size:156 x 234 mm, Language(s):English, Latin, Hebrew. ISBN 9782503605050.‎

‎Summary Andrew of Saint Victor was one of the most prominent biblical scholars of the twelfth century. He was a regular canon of the Parisian abbey of St Victor, founded in 1108, which in the twelfth century had developed into a prestigious center of spiritual learning, closely connected to the nascent university in Paris. Because of his frequent use of Jewish exegetical materials, Andrew's commentaries are a rich source for the history both of biblical hermeneutics and of inter-religious dialogue during the Middle Ages. His Isaiah commentary caused outrage among medieval Christian scholars because it eschewed traditional christological interpretations, and instead offered a reading "according to the Hebrew." This translation makes this work accessible in English for the first time. The source text of this volume was published in 2021 by Frans van Liere (Corpus Christianorum, Continuatio Mediaeualis, 53C). References to the corresponding pages of the Corpus Christianorum edition are provided in the margins of this translation. ‎Summary Andrew of Saint Victor was one of the most prominent biblical scholars of the twelfth century. He was a regular canon of the Parisian abbey of St Victor, which in the twelfth century had developed into a prestigious center of spiritual learning, closely connected to the nascent university in Paris. Because of his frequent use of Jewish exegetical materials, Andrew's commentaries are a rich source for the history both of biblical hermeneutics and of inter-religious dialogue during the Middle Ages. His Isaiah commentary caused outrage among medieval Christian scholars because it eschewed traditional christological interpretations, and instead offered a reading "secundum Hebraeos." Scholars have seen Andrew of St Victor as standing at the cradle of a scholarly interest in the Biblical text, which influenced scholars such as the fourteenth-century Franciscan Nicholas of Lyra, and, in the long run, reformers such as John Wycliff, Martin Luther, and John Calvin.‎

‎Summary Abscondi eloquium tuum in corde meo, Thy word have I hid in mine heart (Ps 119, 11). Under this title, colleagues, disciples and friends of Gilbert Dahan have decided, on the initiative and under the direction of Annie Noblesse, to address him a collection of M langes in homage to his scientific work and the profound renewal he has brought to various fields of research: the phenomenology of medieval liturgical games, relations between Jewish intellectuals and Christians in the Middle Ages, and medieval Christian exegesis. Based on his interest in medieval exegesis, its history and reception, they offer twenty-one contributions, classified under five headings: elucidating, glossing and commenting, interpreting, conferring and preaching. A study of the musical setting of Ps 101 by Pierre C sar Abeille (1674-1733), whose works appeared in a manuscript of the Biblioth que nationale de France, also pays tribute to the musician and music lover to whom this book is dedicated. The volume also includes a list of Gilbert Dahan's works and publications. Abscondi eloquium tuum in corde meo, J'ai ton parler reserr en mon cueur (Ps 119, 11). ‎Summary This volume provides the editio princeps of a protocarolingian anonymous commentary on the Song of Songs, which survived in two manuscripts dated between the eighth and the ninth century; an epitome is also transmitted by a single manuscript dated two centuries later. Although the commentary's geographical origin is not clear, the author draws his exegetical themes from many different sources, such as Pope Gregory I, the Iberian Gregory of Elvira, Bede and, above all, Apponius, whose work is rarely used by subsequent authors due to its length and complexity. Both because of the use of these different sources and the author's lack of dexterity in organizing such a multiplicity of subjects into a unitary exposition, the commentary's syntax is wanting, resulting in a fragmentary discourse. Nevertheless, this commentary provides the scholarly community with a significant example of the "ordinary" exegetes' activity and their independence from their sources' original form. The edition of this work also makes a remarkable contribution to the understanding of the early medieval exegetical tradition on the Song of Songs, since it allows us to go beyond the mere knowledge of the genre's masterpieces.

‎, Brepols, 2023 Paperback, 191 pages, Size:156 x 234 mm, Language(s):English, Latin. ISBN 9782503596785.‎

‎Summary The Liber de ordine creaturarum is an anonymous Latin work with an Irish provenance that dates back to the seventh century. It presents the creation as the divine handiwork and is notable for serving as both a commentary on the Hexaemeron (Six-day Work) in Genesis and as one of the earliest works of systematic theology. Although previously attributed to Isidore of Seville, the Liber de ordine creaturarum is far more than a mere compilation of 'authorities.' Instead, it emphasizes the inherent order that exists within the creation itself. ‎East River. Deutsche Übersetzung von N. O. Scarpi.‎

‎Diana Verlag. Zürich. 1947. Roter, titelvergoldeter Original-Leinwand-Einband. (Teils mit geringeren Gebrauchsspuren). 20x14 cm‎

‎* Erste Ausgabe in Deutsch First edition in German --- Schalom Asch (geboren 1. Januar[2] 1880 in Kutno, Warschauer Gouvernement, Russisches Kaiserreich; gestorben 10. Juli 1957 in London. (Quelle Wikipedia)‎
