Koutsoubelis, Cloe & Bakonika, Alexandra
Cloe and Alexandra
Parallel Greek and English texts translated by Manolis. Cloe and Alexandra are two contemporary Greek Poetesses with passionate voices that work from within today's human condition to describe its pain and pleasure; two voices so similar and yet so different in their expression of the internal. They are two poetesses who try to blend both pain and pleasure into an acceptable value. Both Cloe and Alexandra possess clarity in the development of their poems while they build anticipation with so much unsaid though expected and they present their characters as subtle and allusive yet at the same time as tragically obvious as they are. Both being familiar with the Greek environment where light is the most important medium, the best cleansing mechanism both poetesses quite comfortably endure the weight of the ancient beauty sitting on shoulders creative and strong.Parallel texts in Greek and English 199p.[9 copies found in WorldCat] Book

Canadian Identity through Literature
"Since Canada's literary tradition is fairly new, it is only natural that there should exist a genuine concern for identity. This sampling of Canadian writing is the result of an attempt to familiarize the reader with Canadian sensibilities in literature and the way the rest of the world perceives this "Canadianism" at the threshold of the twenty-first century. For this I hope that the essays and the literary voices gathered in this publication make an important contribution to our understanding of what defines Canadian identity through literature and the arts. . "Most of the essays and fiction were presented at a conference on 'Canadian identity through literature,' which took place on November 6 and 7, 1998 at Athens University". 110p.{7 copies found in WorldCat] Book

Kovacs, David
EURIPIDEA
Very light yellowing to back panel of DJ. ; This work contains material to supplement volume one of the author's "Loeb Euripides". It consists of two parts: Testimonia Vitae et Artis Selecta and Textual Discussions. The Testimonia, ancient notes about the life of Euripides and his career as a tragic poet, are printed together, with a facing English translation. The Loeb introduction examines this material critically. Equipped with this body of evidence, students of Greek tragedy and of ancient biography will be able to assess for themselves the reliability of the biographical tradition, in which, the author argues, too much confidence has been placed by interpreters of plays. The Textual Discussions explain places in the plays of volume one, "Cyclops", "Alcestis" and "Medea", where the text adopted by the editor calls for comment. ; Mnemosyne, Bibliotheca Classica Batava Supplementum; 181 pages

Kowerski, Lawrence M.
SIMONIDES ON THE PERSIAN WARS A Study of the Elegiac Verses of the 'New Simonides'
Studies in Classics; 260 pages; This book examines the arrangement and interpretation of the papyrus fragments named the "new Simonides." Specifically, it considers what evidence these fragments offer for Simonides' elegiac compositions on the Persian Wars. The current orthodoxy is that they represent three separate elegies on individual battles, one on Artemisium, one on Salamis, and one on Plataea. Kowerski evaluates what evidence these fragments provide for these compositions, and in doing so, questions the validity of the current interpretation of the "new Simonides."
