'This volume presents the first edition of the Arabic translation by Hunayn ibn Ishaq of Galen's Critical Days De diebus decretoriis together with the first translation of the text into a modern language. The substantial introduction contextualizes the treatise within the Greek and Arabic traditions. Galen's Critical Days was a founding text of astrological medicine. In febrile illnesses the critical days are the days on which an especially severe pattern of symptoms a crisis was likely to occur. The crisis was thought to expel the disease-producing substances from the body. If its precise timing were known the physician could prepare the patient so that the crisis would be most beneficial. After identifying the critical days based on empirical data and showing how to use them in therapy Galen explains the critical days via the moon's influence. In the historical introduction Glen Cooper discusses the translation of the Critical Days in Arabic and adumbrates its possible significance in the intellectual debates and political rivalries among the 9th-century Baghdad elite. It is argued that Galen originally composed the Critical Days both to confound the Skeptics of his own day and to refute a purely mathematical rationalist approach to science. These features made the text useful in the rivalries between Baghdad scholars. Al-Kindi d.c. 866 famously propounded a mathematical approach to science akin to the latter. The scholar-bureaucrat responsible for funding this translation Muhammad ibn Musa d. 873 al-Kindi's nemesis may have found the treatise useful in refuting that approach. He learned the craft and the different techniques by helping and assisting his father in the production of over 100 fine books. He not only learned the love for the books but also for the craftsmanship involved in every stage of producing them. In 2008 he started his own projects that vary from editions book prints and special commissions. He works with different techniques from linocuts and woodcut to etching and uses lead and wood types to print the texts<br /> <br /> Bound with marbled paper boards with brownish orange spine and cover edges. Title in black to spine and with a title lable affixed to the front cover. The book is printed ono Fredigoni paper at Gràfiques Marti. The text has been composed with the font families Linotype Didot and Adob Garamond. Housed in a slipcase covered with the same orange cloth as the book's spine which is in turn housed in a brown cardboard folder with brown fabric ties. It is in fine condition. Il connaît bien sûr ses petits scandales on y pratique comme partout un vice ou un autre et il s'y déroule parfois des drames insoupçonnés mais tout cela se passe toujours à l'abris de portes closes et de rideaux de dentelle soigneusement amidonnés. Bref Bellingford est un village anglais très typique. Jusqu'à ce jour de printemps où une nouvelle de première importance vient troubler la douce harmonie du village : le château a enfin été vendu à deux messieurs seuls qui vont s'y installer sous peu. Avec l'arrivée de Rich et Bless couple homosexuel brûlant d'un amour réciproque - un producteur de comédies musicales et son jeune amant vaguement styliste impatients d'installer leur bonheur dans un écrin de verdure - calme et quiétude vont déserter Bellingford. J'espère observe la pétulante Maggie la meilleure amie de Bless que tu ne vas pas t'ennuyer à la campagne... Qu'elle se rassure aucun danger ! A peine Rich est-il parti pour un voyage d'affaires aux Etats-Unis que Bless se trouve emporté dans un tourbillon d'événements à côté desquels le métro londonien à six heures du soir et les sambas du carnaval de Rio sembleraient presque calmes et reposants. Entre une contessa italienne toute de cuir vêtue son frère une brute haletante de désir un pasteur qui pratique l'exorcisme une danseuse étoile croulante qui prépare son retour à la scène un général de brigade prônant l'ordre et la vertu et une femme de ménage répondant au nom mélodieux de Doris Day on n'a pas le temps de s'ennuyer. Deux garçons bien sous tous rapports est l'un de ces romans d'une drôlerie loufoque comme seuls les Anglais savent en écrire : l'irruption dans un petit village d'un couple homosexuel et d'une poignée de personnages hauts en couleurs va rompre la monotonie et révéler par la même occasion qu'il ne faut pas se fier à l'eau qui dort. Sous une apparente tranquillité se cachent des secrets de famille des comportements étranges et des personnalités insoupçonnées : le lot quotidien en somme de n'importe quelle petite bourgade en Angleterre ou ailleurs‎
