LATIN AMERICA EISENHOWER Dwight D.
Broadside Proclamation Pan American Day April 14 / Pan American Week - April 8-14 1957. By the President of the United States of America a Proclamation
Washington: GPO 1957. Ephemera. Offset-printed broadside in three colors 21-1/2" x 17"; printed recto-only. Old folds probably as issued; a few small nicks to extremities; Very Good or better. Announces the establishment of Pan American Week April 8-14; and Pan American Day April 14 and reprints the full text of Eisenhower's proclamation. Pan-American Day is still celebrated in some Latin American countries though news of its establishment never seems to have made a lasting impression on the U.S. populace. Though clearly intended for display this broadside is apparently scarce with no example recorded in commerce and none catalogued in OCLC as of October 2018. unknown

FINAL REPORT FOOD SUPPLY TRAINING PROGRAM INSTITUTE OF INTER-AMERICAN AFFAIRS: Volume II Photographs of Trainees Internal Title - Original Photograph Album
Washington D.C.: Institute of Inter-American Affairs 1944-1945. Folio album. Black cloth over boards. String bound through left margin. Typed index sheet in front followed by 50 thick paper leaves with 123 black and white photographs tape mounted to rectos and some versos. Photographs vary in size and include 47 approximately 8" x 10" 5 approximately 5" x 7" and 71 snapshot format typically about 3" x 5." Photographs with some infrequent surface wear from storage against opposing prints else uncommonly well preserved and solidly very good overall.

A singular album of more than 120 original and identified photographs the visual volume of the final report of the Food Supply Training Program of the Institute of Inter-American Affairs a Wartime agency of Latin American diplomacy. Originally established in 1941 as a counter-intelligence unit its original task was to battle the effects of German and Italian propaganda in Latin American nations. Its mission quickly expanded to become one of broad cultural diplomacy incorporating media production and economic development including this seemingly unheralded food supply training program undertaken in about 1944-1945 which brought agricultural specialists from across Latin America Mexico Peru Brazil Paraguay Venezuela etc. to diverse rural locations throughout The United States. Typical documentation here focuses on individuals including an Adylio Vitarelli of Brazil shown meeting with industry heads in D.C. on pp.14 of the album then again towards the rear of the volume in 6 snapshots from a grain farm in Central Illinois with captions indicating training in corn seed hybrid development forestry planning and erosion control ; a Raimundo Silveira also of Brazil is likewise shown with the suits in D.C. then again in 4 snapshot views on a Turkey farm in Central Nebraska including an excellent medium enlargement of he and a Nebraska farmer each wearing blood and feather stained smocks ; an Adela Rodriguez of Venezuela part of a Home Economics Extension is shown with other women in D.C. then again in 8 different snapshot views training in various crafts and farming techniques on a New Hampshire farm ; etc. Additionally a section at the very rear of the album documents a Brazilian delegation of the 4-H Congress at a meeting in Chicago on December 7 1944 and includes a detailed list of attendees along with excellent photographs of the group at various locations including in a clear enlargement of a live stock show in Tuskegee Alabama. The agency originally headed by Nelson Rockefeller was absorbed into the State Department after the War and its records appear to largely reside in the National Archives with surviving primary documents of its efforts appearing exceedingly uncommon to encounter in the wild. A singular and rich photographic production relevant to the crucial and evolving study of food supplies as well as myriad additional areas of interest including Latin America agricultural development World War II and more.
