A contemporary of Columbus Lorenzo is hardly known in the English-speaking world as a major Quattrocento writer author of a large and varied body of poetry as well as an important literary treatise. His poetry and patronage were instrumental in renewing the vernacular literature of his age after a period of stagnation. That Lorenzos literary writings were for the most part never translated is a fascinating curiosity of history attributable to the irreverent bawdy subject matter of many of his poems objections to his authoritarian politics and the unconventional features of his poetic realism. Yet Lorenzo is now seen as the most interesting exponent of the cultural renaissance that he encouraged. No other Florentine writer succeeds in capturing as he does the beauty seasonal changes and rhythms of life of the Tuscan countryside. Questo è il primo messaggio trasmesso dalla mostra che si tiene dal 6 dicembre 2014 al 1° marzo 2015 a Villa Argentina, Viareggio; l'impatto immediato, quello che resta dentro e permette di percorrere, sala dopo sala, tutto l'orrore della guerra, con un crescendo esponenziale che attraversa le opere di Lorenzo Viani e arriva agli scatti fotografici del medico e compagno di fronte Guido Zeppini, in un dialogo silente ma unisono tra le evocazioni dei quadri e la realtà della guerra registrata dai documenti fotografici. La morte è la protagonista assoluta di questa mostra, ma non nella sua simbolica raffigurazione dello scheletro che sorregge trionfalmente la falce. La morte protagonista è quella che si legge sulla facce dei soldati, tra i cippi dei cimiteri, nei mucchi di cadaveri ammassati, gli uni sugli altri, e nello straziante dolore di una madre che piange stringendo a sé il proprio figlio morto.

ill., br. A Dresda nel 1905 viene stilato il manifesto programmatico del gruppo Die Brüche (Il Ponte). Nello stesso anno Lorenzo Viani (1882-1936), espone al Regio Casinò di Viareggio, sua città natale, i primi lavori di timbro fattoriano e altri prevalentemente grafici, di atmosfera simbolista. Il suo personale espressionismo "intensivo", pur avendo l'aggressività primitiva e l'estrema convinzione anti-accademica, è ancora nella fase embrionale. L'artista si formerà come espressionista sulle rive della Senna, con uno stile contraddistinto dalla propria emotività anarcoide. Importanti, anzi determinanti, saranno gli incontri con le opere di Vincent van Gogh e la pittura dei Fauves. Al rientro in Italia il suo percorso si pone nei binari dell'avanguardia: la sua produzione entra di diritto tra le più significative del primo Novecento non solo italiano ma europeo.

In 4° (24×18 cm); tre tomi: XVIII, (8), IX – LXXX, 314, (2 b. ) pp., XXXI, (1), 268, (2 b.) pp., 156, 44, (2 b. ) pp. Questo dovrebbe essere uno dei primi ed essere uscito, essendo questo esemplare privo del ritratto di Giovanni della Casa che in questo esemplare, chiaramente, non è mai stato aggiunto. Con frontespizio proprio alla fine del terzo volume “Due orazioni di Monsignor Gio. della Casa per muovere i veneziani a collegarsi col Papa, col Re di Francia e con gli Svizzeri, contro l’Imperador Carlo Quinto. In Lione, Appresso Bartolommeo Martin. Legature coeve in cartoncino molle d’attesa con dorsi foderati con bella carta floreale. Fascetta con titolo, autore e numero del volume manoscritta da mano ottocentesca al dorso. Bellissime incisioni con scene animate ai frontespizi e alle testatine stampate con lastra a parte rispetto al testo. Alcune testatine ed iniziali xilografiche. Ex-libris privato applicato all’interno del piatto anteriore di ogni volume che identifica l’esemplare come appartenuto a “B. Guastalla”. Seconda edizione veneta riveduta ed accresciuta dell’opera del grande letterato, scrittore ed arcivescovo cattolico, Giovanni Della Casa, più conosciuto come monsignor Della Casa o monsignor Dellacasa (Borgo San Lorenzo, 28 giugno 1503 – Montepulciano, 14 novembre 1556), celebre per il suo “Galateo overo de’ costumi” composto, probabilmente, dopo il 1551 a Calvisano, ma pubblicato solo postumo nel 1558. Scrive il Gamba al numero 290 della sua nota bibliografia “Di questa nuova edizione si prese cura Marco Forcellini, riordinando le Opere, togliendo via molti Commenti, e ponendo in luogo loro brevi Annotazioni, ed una Tavola di tutte le voci usate dal Casa. Il Forcellini potè arricchire questa stampa di 43 Lettere non più stampate e di un Discorso in materia politica, indirizzato al Card. Caraffa ed al Casa attribuito”. Nato a Borgo San Lorenzo del Mugello, Giovanni della Casa trovò il luogo ideale di crescita letteraria e di lavoro a Venezia dove nel suo palazzetto sul Canal Grande riuscì a riunire un importante cenacolo letterario. Nunzio Apostolico a Venezia, Della Casa introdusse il Tribunale dell’Inquisizione in Veneto seguendo direttamente diversi processi. Nel 1548 si deve a lui la redazione dell’Indice dei Libri Proibiti. Con la morte del suo protettore Alessandro Farnese e l’elezione di papa Giulio III cadde in disgrazia e dopo aver lasciato Roma, dove era ritornato per cercare di perorare la sua causa, si trasferì a Nervesa in provincia di Treviso ed è proprio qui che si suppone, finì la sua opera più celebre (probabilmente già iniziata a Venezia) “Il Galateo” che gli diede enorme fama dopo la sua pubblicazione postuma.
