Sie ist 1525 zum ersten Mal erschienen. Die massgebliche Ausgabe ist aber die von Vellutello überarbeitete die 1528 veröffentlicht wurde. Vielen Lesern war die Anordnung der Gedichte im Canzoniere nicht klar. In ihm sind die Gedichte über die Liebe zu Laura mit Gedichten anderen politischen kirchenkritischen Inhalts vermischt. Vellutello hat den Canzoniere neu geordnet so dass sich die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Petrarca und Laura - in vita prima parteI und in morte seconda parte - Schritt für Schritt verfolgen lässt. Die Gedichte die mit diesen Ereignissen nicht in Verbindung stehen hat er in einer Parte terza seines' Canzoniere zusammengestellt. Vellutello war davon überzeugt dass es die Liebesgeschichte zwischen Petrarca und Laura wirklich gegeben hat. With full-page woodcut printer's device on final leaf. � Very rare first edition of the most important and influential of Petrarca's publications his seminal "Epistolae Familiares" which constitutes one of the most significant works of the Renaissance - the first documentation of "modern man". <br><br>The present publication constitutes the only separately published incunable edition of Petrarch's letters. Later on in all 350 letters to his friends were published; the present work is made up of the first 102 and the publication thus marks the beginning of one of the most important enterprises of humanism namely the publication of the letters that reveal to us the man Petrarca. Petrarca is the first modern man whose life can be traced accurately due to the publication of his letters and he is considered the embodiment of the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. The many outer and inner conflicts that we witness in the person Petrarca is a testament to the times in which he lived - a time in which the Middle Ages evolved into the Renaissance and in which man became the centre of the world a time in which humanism was born. <br><br>One of the prime focus points of the Renaissance was the rebirth of antiquity especially of classical literature and Petrarca is one of the first to catch on to this world-altering trend. His "Epistolae Familiares" have been carefully edited for the use of publication after a purely classic pattern making them a prime example of this re-birth that became the Renaissance. As Bondy notes "The pagination of volume 2 jumps from page 7 to page 16 to allow for the insertion of the sei sonetti di Francesco Petrarca scoperti e publicati da G'. Veludo"; however in this volume the six sonnets are bound at the end. Ongania explains in his preface that this edition is uniform with Salmin's famous "fly's eye type" miniature Dante of the previous year the success of which inspired him to produce the Petrarch. Ongania's penchant for laudatory mimicry led him to pioneer the use of new photomechanical processes in art books and in facsimiles. Bound in full brown leather with gilt tooling to covers and spine. Beautiful fresh example of Bodoni's lovely production in smaller format. Finely bound in full green morocco by an Oxford binder from 'the heyday of provincial bookbinding.' Maggs An excellent example of Bodoni's superb work very elegant and of the highest quality. The first owner of the book Sir John Courtenay Throckmorton 5th Baronet 1754–1819 who most probably had it bound by Barratt was a descendant of Sir John Throckmorton 1524–80 a member of the English Parliament during the reign of Queen Mary I.
