There is one small dent to the top edge of the dust jacket. The book covers have several spots of ground-in dirt or discoloration. The text pages are generally clean and bright. The inner hinges of the book are somewhat loose. "Edmund Dulac born Edmond Dulac; 22 October 1882 � 25 May 1953 was a French British naturalised magazine illustrator book illustrator and stamp designer. Born in Toulouse he studied law but later turned to the study of art at the �cole des Beaux-Arts. He moved to London early in the 20th century and in 1905 received his first commission to illustrate the novels of the Bront� Sisters. During World War I Dulac produced relief books and when after the war the deluxe children's book market shrank he turned to magazine illustrations among other ventures. Original publisher's vellum no ties profusely gilt stamped to the spine and to the front board. 28 colour plates as called for - all tissue guarded. Two faint circular stain marks to the frontispiece - tissue-guarded and to the margins of that page - in no way affecting the tipped in colour plate. Some toning to the background paper colour plate in no way affected - probably caused by some kind of paper insert - again in no way affecting the colour plate. The front and rear boards a little marked with around 5 light circular ish! stain marks to the front board - mostly 2.5cm in diameter or less. The spine a little toned and again with a little staining but nothing heavy. An attractive signed vellum limited edition in very good condition. Hodder and Stoughton hardcover
