Illustrated end pages being a reproduction of Inca textile pattern. The text is illustrated with colour and black-and-white photography black-and-white line illustrations and maps. Beige coloured cloth covered boards with brown coloured illustration to the lower right hand corner of the front panel and brown coloured titles to the back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. The author of the book was the son of an Inca princess and a Spanish conquistador born in 1539 just after the subjugation of the Inca civilisation. Before he left Peru he took copious notes as he listened to his mother's family about past glories visited Indian villages and did personal investigations of the decaying civilisation and when he retired from the Spanish army 30 years later wrote the work within the book ''The Royal Commentaries of the Inca''. Rubbing and some discolouration to the book edges. Age toning of the text block edges and lighter age toning of the pages. Some creasing of the dustwrapper edges with rubbing of the panels. There have been numerous tears to the top dustwrapper edge which a previous owner has prepared / supported with tape � tape still in situ.
