Verso Pinselproben. Provenienz: Slg. Helmut Goedeckemeyer, Petterweil (hier noch die Adresse von Frankfurt a.M., Rödelheim, März 1921). Vermutlich Entwurf für einen Holzschnitt.‎

‎Die auch als Bildhauerin und Schriftstellerin tätige Malerin und Radiererin Thea Schleusner, Tochter des Archidiakons der Wittenberger Stadtkirche Georg Schleusner, beschloß im Alter von 19 Jahren Malerin zu werden. Sie ging 1897 nach Berlin, wo sie Meisterschülerin von C. Stoeving (1863-1939), F. Skarbina (1849-1910) und R. Lepsius (1857-1922) wurde. Anschließend zog sie nach Paris, wo sie an der Académie Colarossi u.a. bei R.F.X. Prinet (1861-1946) und an der Académie von E. Carrière (1849-1906) studierte. Darüber hinaus absolvierte sie eine Ausbildung bei dem schwedischen Bildhauer C. Milles (1875-1955). Seit 1910 knüpfte sie in Paris Kontakte zu André Gide, A. Rodin (1840-1917) und Rainer Maria Rilke - sie lebten ebenfalls im Kloster Sacré Coeur. Beteiligungen an Ausstellungen der ?Indépendants? und am Pariser Herbstsalon, auch in London, Stockholm und Berlin. Bereits 1910 erwarb das Musée d'Orsay ein Bild der Künstlerin. 1910-1912 weilte sie in England, wo sie Porträtaufträge hatte und Bühnenbilder für das Theater schuf. 1914 kehrte sie endgültig nach Berlin zurück, wo ihr Atelier bald zum künstlerischen Treffpunkt wurde. Hier porträtierte sie Albert Einstein, Friedrich Nietzsche, Emil Nolde und seine Frau sowie Ricarda Huch. Studienreisen nach Griechenland, Spanien, Nordafrika, Rumänien und Jugoslawien sowie längere Aufenthalte 1920 in Schweden und 1938-1941 auf Ceylon folgten. Ab den 1920er Jahren beschäftigte sie sich auch schriftstellerisch und schrieb Reiseberichte. Während des Zweiten Weltkrieges ging durch Bombardierungen ein Großteil ihres Werkes verloren. Zahlreiche Museen und Sammlungen besitzen Werke der Künstlerin, so die Akademie der Wissenschaften Berlin, die Kunsthalle Kiel, der Louvre Paris, die Stadt Berlin, das Nietzsche-Archiv in Weimar und das Heimatmuseum Wittenberg.‎

Mühlenbrücke komplett.Dieser Totentanz-Zyklus ist eines der Wahrzeichen Luzerns, das Werk Caspar Meglingers, von 1626 bis 1635 gemalt, und zwar ursprünglich 67 Bilder (abgebildet sind nur 64, (3 waren damals schon verschollen). Es existieren heute noch 56 (vor dem Brückenbrand), 45 davon wurden 1867 in der Mühlebrücke aufgehängt. Über Jahrhunderte wurden die Totentanz-Bilder immer wieder restauriert.“Meglingers Bedeutung liegt in seiner außerordentlichen szenischen Kompositionsgabe und gewandten Porträtkunst; auch in der weichen Behandlung des nackten Körpers und in seiner Auffassung landschaftlicher Reize.
