I saggi raccolti nel presente volume affrontano alcuni aspetti centrali della riflessione hegeliana sulla religione: la dialettica tra rappresentazione e concetto, ossia tra religione e filosofia; la religione nella Fenomenologia dello spirito; la critica dell’idea schleiermacheriana della religione come “sentimento della dipendenza assoluta”; la religione della magia quale stadio iniziale della “storia delle religioni”; la religione cinese nei quattro corsi di lezioni berlinesi; Alberto Caracciolo interprete di Hegel. Se nell’interpretazione della prospettiva hegeliana data da Walter Jaeschke la religione – una volta raggiunta la sua forma più alta: quella cristiana – è destinata a “trovare rifugio” nella filosofia, se non addirittura (come religione della libertà) a dissolversi nelle istituzioni etiche, improntandole di sé, nella critica dell’impostazione hegeliana sviluppata da Caracciolo la religione, quale rapporto diretto del singolo con la Trascendenza, non può non conservare una sua autonomia rispetto al pensiero filosofico, destinato però come tale a mettere in questione la pretesa di assolutezza delle religioni storico-positive. Qual è il significato attuale dell’eredità hegeliana? A questa domanda tenta di rispondere Rileggere Hegel, proponendo al lettore un percorso di approfondimento nel pensiero e nelle opere del filosofo tedesco che va al di là del canone ermeneutico dominante. Collocati fuori dagli schemi storiografici consueti (razionalismo metafisico, ottimismo ontologico, giustificazione dell’esistenza, conservatorismo politico ecc.), i concetti fondamentali della filosofia hegeliana – il tempo, il soggetto, la negatività, la dialettica – vengono sottoposti, nei dodici saggi che compongono il volume, a un’intensa attività di “rilettura” che conduce a un risultato per certi aspetti sorprendente: il pensiero di Hegel, lungi dal mostrarsi avulso dai nodi del presente, appare come un dispositivo teorico ancora capace, nonostante la distanza temporale, di gettare luce sulle oscurità del nostro tempo e sulle contraddizioni della nostra esistenza storica.
