This is the most complete set of this work we have seen. Rare. With a Frontispiece in Volumes I and III. Francis Bacon 1st Viscount St. Alban22 January 1561 9 April 1626 was an English philosopher statesman scientist jurist orator essayist and author. He served both as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor of England. After his death he remained extremely influential through his works especially as philosophical advocate and practitioner of the scientific method during the scientific revolution. Condition: In red morocco bindings with five raised bands and gilt detailing to the spines. Externally worn; with rubbing and some loss of leather and marks. The joints have failed with all boards detached from the spines. Internally generally firmly bound but strained in places. The pages are generally bright and clean with scattered spotting and handling marks and cockling in places; with rubbing to the marbled paper endpapers. The free endpapers are detached from the text blocks. Volume I has a paper bookplate of George Gostling adhered to the front pastedown. Overall: GOOD ONLY. London - Printed for A. Millar hardcover
